Finally, after a long time I got to see a good, romantic Bollywood movie. After New York, none of the Bollywood releases excited me at all...but finally, today I saw Love Aaj Kal (a day before its release, thanks to the cinema close to my house which shows a movie a day before its release). In short, it seems that this movie was made for the sole purpose of just testing the censor board`s patience... and to embarass family audiences and to give encouragement to the already morally dead youngsters (not all of them but unfortunately many of them) to carry on with their messed up lifestyl...es and behaviour!!!Read More

Coming to the actors, Akshay Kumar seems to be misusing his star power by doing such crappy films...I think Sinngh is King was really crap but not as bad as this and AK managed to fool his audience and the film became a blockbuster...but then he came up with duds such as Chandni Chowk To China and 8...*10 Tasveer...now add to that list, Kambakkth Ishq...It seems that Mr.Kumar has started taking his audience and fans for granted and thinks that they will accept all the crap and s*it that he gives them, thanks to the confidence he`s gained after a series of hits such as Bhool Bhulaiya,Heyy Baby,Welcome,SIK, etc. It`s high time he pulls up his socks because you can`t fool people for very long. Coming to Kareena Kapoor, she just had to expose, speak out abuses at her co-star and make weird faces and she looks pretty comfortable doing that, Amrita Arora proves once again that acting is just not her forte and Aftab Shivdasani as Akshay`s sidekick proves that he has lost his solo actor status. Kirron Kher (phew...) does the same what she`s been doing in her last 10-15 releases...she needs a Khamosh Pani again.Coming to the Hollywood actors...the less said the better...only Brandon Routh`s cameo made some sense otherwise I don`t know what retired actors such as Sylvester Stallone and Denise Richards were there for. And yes, the most irritating of all was Javed Jaffrey in an inconsequential, loud role of a man trying to find ways of suing people to make money...the guy hams endlessly and just gets on your nerves!!!Read More

amazing review and very sensitively written...I am from Pakistan and I read this book last summer and I absolutely loved it. This novel had an everlasting impact on my mind. It was so hard-hitting and by the end of the book, I was almost in tears. I really agree with your views on India-Pakistan uni...ty. A common Pakistani man is no dfferent from his Indian counterpart. Even we don`t want taliban to impose their ideas on us, even we want the basic freedoms that every reasonable human asks for and even we love watching Bollywood movies...lol :) Even I fear that Pakistan might end up being the next Afghanistan, in the near future. At least, going by the media reports that`s what`s happening in the north-western areas of Pakistan but thank God...the urban areas, as in, Lahore, Karachi are still safe or at least, safer than the other areas. I loved your review and the end which includes ’motherland’ as the third mother. Keep it up!!!Read More

hey...fenil...good review once again. Even I loved this movie. I went to see it twice at the cinema but was really disturbed by the comments of some narrow-minded people sitting ahead of me (my parent`s friends, actually) that the main actress (Konkona) isn`t pretty enough or that the movie was borin...g because it wasn`t as entertaining as Singh is Kinng (well, personally I think SIK was a nightmare). Such people really need help. Konkona is one of the best actresses according to me and I think that it was a very entertaining movie. It had everything in it; comedy, emotions,a great item song (Baawre), romance (at least the Pyaar Ki Dastaan song was very romantic),the presence of some big stars and of course I loved it because it was a very realistic and practical movie;very logical and sensible. I think this is the best movie of the season.Don`t know when people will realise that Bollywood is not necessarily all about dumb beauties and loud humour, melodrama and illogical singing and dancing around the trees.Read More

A Pakistani`s take on the recent Mumbai attacks

Bigmouth66... ...thanks for your kind words and as far as the Peshawar blasts are concerned, this happens almost everyday here. Unfrotunately, these blasts are no more a big deal in Pakistan, or at least, Peshawar.

A Pakistani`s take on the recent Mumbai attacks

Dec 05, 2008 06:27 PM (Updated Dec 05, 2008 06:31 PM)

My reply continued... arunroy: I know that what happened in Mumbai was terrible and that people are really frustrated and angry out there but it is disturbing to see Indo-Pak relations deteriorating so badly, without any rhyme or reason. For example, Pakistani artistes working in India have been ban...ned from appearing on Indian TV shows and even Muslims are being viewed with hatred and suspicion. For example, I read the comments of some Indians that people like SRK, Aamir and Salman Khan should be banned from working in India. These are non-political people who are not involved with these terrorist attacks in any sense. It doesn`t make sense to involve normal, ordinary people in these socio-political matters. BTW, I appreciate the fact that you called me a brother and being an advocate of better Indo-Pak relations, I feel sad all that is happening between the two countries after the 26th November attacks. sweets_desire and hakoonamatata: Yeah even I know a few people in India and they are very much like us Pakistanis. I know that there are definitely some narrow-minded Pakistanis who hate Indians and I personally get turned off by such people. Unfortunately, even in India there are a few people who don`t have a good opinion about Pakistanis. However, there are still a lot of people in both the countries who are seriously in for strengthening Indo-Pak relations, so I wish that at least these people don`t get affected by the Indo-Pak tension going on these days. fenil_seta: I agree completely with you. I feel that the governments of both India and Pakistam are behaving quite foolishly. They should jointly decide how get rid of this threat posed by the militants to both the countries rather than getting into a war with each other. Both India and Pakistan already face a serious threat from these terrorists to create new enmies for themselves in each other`s form.Read More

A Pakistani`s take on the recent Mumbai attacks

Dec 05, 2008 06:12 PM (Updated Dec 05, 2008 06:27 PM)

My reply... khulamunh: Yeah...exactly...zardari ke jhooth ka parda faash was the program. Thank God someone has seen that. Although I hate Pakistani news channels (because of their habit of blowing things out of proportion) but never did I find them as offensive as what India TV did on that show. I ...like Indian news channels, actually, but India TV sucks big time. baruah.siddhartha: These ppl who are ready to die are the most frustrated people. They are sadists who although wish to die themselves but before that want to see others suffer and die too. Hence, the terror attacks take place. They have nothing at all to do with religion because Islam lays guidelines as to how to LIVE according to Islam, NOT to DIE or KILL using the name of Islam. Bigmouth66: I agree that Pakistan is not acting very wisely either but my point is that the Pakistan Government doesn`t seem to be involved in these attacks because Pakistan itself is busy with fighting against terrorism. It cannot afford to unnecessarily get into a war with India becuase its main concern are the militants which have entered Pakistan.Your point about terrorists roaming freely in Pakistan is valid but it`s not that Pakistan is providing protection or shelter to these people. Even the Pakistan Government wants to get rid of them and has placed police officers on every spot to look out for them but unfortunately, they have not been able to get hold of all of them just like India failed to get hold of them recently and they freely occupied hotels/buildings in Mumbai.India and Pakistan should come up with a plan on how to tackle this threat. BTW, my name is Muneeb.Read More

A Pakistani`s take on the recent Mumbai attacks

Dec 04, 2008 08:55 PM

DIARY POST CONTINUED... How is it possible that anyone can enter into a hotel so easily with dangerous weapons and escape being checked by anyone? Whenever I buy something for myself and bring it home, I don`t even manage to hide that stuff from my parents` eyes, so how come the security guards outs...ide the Taj Hotel failed so miserably that they didn`t check all the weapons being brouhgt in? Whenever I go to a hotel there is so much security and so many checks. They check your cars and also check what you are carrying with the use of machines. This is negligence at its peak. It`s of no use to ponder over what went wrong and it is equally of no use for Pakistanis and Indians to fight against each other because this will make things go worse. These terrorists are the biggest enemies of the world and one of the biggest enemies of God because this is not what Islam requires, namely, to kill people. The Holy Quran itself says that everyine has the freedom to religion and even Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) says that 'there should be no compulsion in religion'. So a Muslim doesn`t necessarily means a terrorist. It only means that he believes that there is only one God and believes in His messengers. Fair enough. It`s his own choice to believe so. Therefore, it is not of any importance whether someone is a Pakistani or a Muslim or an Indian or a Hindu or an American or a Catholic or whatever. The main concern for us is that the world is under threat from certain terrorists who have gone mad after theit thirst and hunger for power and that we need to unite against these unwanted creatures to get rid of them. We hate them, not humanity, not each other. I am a Pakistani and I love India and I love humanity...I love this world and anyone who poses threat to me and my love (humanity and this world) is my enemy!!!Read More

Bobby Deol is decent in his special appearance (though it`s not a brief role at all) and Kirron Kher, though she reminds you of her previous roles of a melodramatic/Punjabi Maa, manages to raise quite a few laughs in her excellent portrayal of a mother who is shocked to find out that her son is gay.... Move over Kanta Ben...Kirron Kher is here. Sushmita Mukherjee is also hilarious as the hyper and ’naughty’ aunty of Priyanka Chopra. On the whole, Dostana, is a must watch, if you want some good entertainment and plan to hang out with your friends. The film already has high expectations surrounding it and it doesn`t disappoint at all.It has all what it takes to be a box-office success, as well, although it has a MAJOR COMPETITION in the form of DESH DROHI, this weekend...so let`s see which one wins (I`m being sarcastic here...lol:) Until then, adios.
