Every time during festival season I find that celebrations turn into grief for someone or some families. It’s always our fault to land in such situations. As the festival days approach, we start losing our cool. All of a sudden when there is increased vehicular traffic on road, there is a disproportional increase in cases of accidents and road rages. Reason that everyone is in hurry and cannot tolerate others. Results when others are lighting candles, there is darkness in some of houses. No one is immortal but loosing life at such times is bad timing. As festive days come close, people start visiting family and friends, with whom they were out of touch for almost full year and choose this time to keep warmth in relationships. But this is time when over little issues like parking, fights turn ugly and results in permanent enmity or loss of life of someone who was not in picture at all. This is the time when we are looking for strengthening of relations and we find people developing grudges against each other on issues like not receiving gifts, receiving gifts but not as per their taste and standard, not receiving wishes and even the sms. That festival day we decide not to visit someone or send wishes and sms in future. Celebrations also show the ugly face of differences in society. When you see it on faces of innocents, it really pains. Many of us think about it but don’t do anything in reality. Like we all know that sweets consumption and giving is not an ideal thing but sales of sweets and particularly last minute purchases are always on increasing side. Let’s hope that this Deepawali nothing like this happens and we all truly celebrate it. HAPPY DEEPAWALI to everyone.

Deepawali is approaching and old memories are floating in my mind. Today I have some spare time so thought of sharing these with you. In our childhood time, Diwali word used to bring sparks in eyes and smiles on faces. Children used to gear up from starting day of Ramlila and it was difficult to wait for Diwali after Dusshera. There was not so much of money floating in market and accordingly families had different budgets for this occasion. But money and capacity to spend never took away the zeal. Many days before Diwali, we used to request for daily purchasing of crackers ( which were allowed only two or three days before Diwali), pistols and its ammunition ( a small card board box, circular in shape and containing either the loose ones or the roll of red bindis to be loaded in pistol). Noise of these small patakas used to fill us with satisfaction. Children used to play soldiers & police man games with these crude metal pistols in hand. I remember that I used to get one such small box for 10 paise and was lucky if I could buy 2-3 in a day. One day my mother gave me 30p, a big amount for me as I could buy 3 rolls today. Shopkeepers in locality used to be friendly one. I went to shop and asked for these; shopkeeper took the money and asked me to pickup those from display outside the shop as he was busy in attending other customers. I took the advantage of this opportunity and picked up 6 boxes and happily went home. It was evening hours and my father had reached home just before me. He inquired where I had gone. I told him and then he asked why you have bought so many today. He asked my mother and she confirmed of giving 30p to me. He asked me the price and I told it as 5 paise for each. He asked me to accompany him and on the way I came to know about his plans. I cannot explain that what I went through in those 10 minutes and pleaded him to forgive me for stealing 3 boxes from the shop. He did not beat me or shouted at me but made me to face the shopkeeper. I returned 3 boxes to shopkeeper and apologized for doing this. But that Diwali taught me a very important lesson. I am grateful to my father for teaching this important lesson to me. He must have forgotten it but I still remember it every Diwali. Because of him I am away from many sins like drinking, gambling, stealing, cheating, abusing etc.

Husband gifted a saree to his wife after coming back from tour. Wife : What's happened to your choice? How could you buy this one for me? Sorry but I don't like it. Husband (Little mayoos) : Ok but please wear it for your office party next week. Wife : I don't think so. Since she had no new dress and was in bad mood on party day, so decided to wear that saaree only. At party..... Colleague 1 : Wow what a lovely Saaree? When did you buy? Colleague 2 : You look pretty in it. Nice saree, could you get me one. Colleague 3 : What a shade! Never knew you have such a sharp eye. Boss : You look so good in this color? Nice choice Wife could not take any more and told every one the fact. In evening when husband came back, she was there with cup of tea. Wife : I am so sorry for what I said. Husband : What happened? Sorry for what! Wife : I was rude to tell you about your choice of the recent sarree. Today almost every one gave me complement. They all liked the design, color and fabric. I told every one that its my husband's choice and he only selects sarees for me. They were all appreciating your taste and want to meet you in person. Husband : Kisi ne saach hi kaha hai- GHAR KI MURGI DAAL BARABAR

Government decided to allow liquor sales in malls for easy availability and announced fine of Rs.5, 000/- for drinking in public place and in cars. To this some of the comments were made by public and represents our mentality. Where we will go now for drink sessions? This is taking away freedom from someone. We prefer to drink in car on flyovers. We used to drink in car in back lanes of colonies, what will happen now. We can't drink at home or at pub as it is expensive, roads were safe place for us. Is that we are? Such people not only cause public nuisance but are responsible for road mishaps too. Apart from this eve teasing, other crimes and brawls are very common in such cases. Government is responsible too for greed of collection of taxes and duties by selling and setting up liquor vendors here and there. The fine would have been 50,000/- to curb such activities.

Sometimes the smallest of gestures go right to the Heart. Like a Smile from a stranger, when you are lost in a crowd. An Old friend calling just to say, I miss you. The touch of mother’s hand on your forehead when you are unable to sleep. A friend asking you, what’s wrong, when you thought that no one noticed. A hand on your shoulder when it feels like the world is against you. An unexpected hug from the one, you love the most. Wish we all get these, whenever we need these.

I am sitting and thinking hard about my life….. How it changed from simple college life to strict professional life… How pocket money changed to huge monthly pay cheques, but gives less happiness…. How a few local jeans changed to new branded wardrobe, but lesser occasions to use them… How a single plate of samosa changed to a full pizza, but hunger is less….. How a bike always in reserve changed to a car always on, but less places to go….. How a tea by roadside changed to CCD, Barista, but it feels as if the shop is far away….. How a limited prepaid card in mobile changed to postpaid package, but I don’t feel like using it….. How a general class journey changed to flight journey, But less vacations for enjoyments…. And many more, May be this is the truth “LIFE”

One morning at a doctor's surgery a patient arrives complaining of serious back-pain. The doctor examines him and asks him "OK, what happened to your back?" The patient replies "You know that I work for a local night club? This morning I got home to my apartment early and heard a noise in my bedroom. On entering I knew someone had been with my wife and the balcony door was open. I rushed out the balcony door and did not find anyone. As I looked down from the balcony I saw a man running out and he was dressing himself. I grabbed the fridge and threw it at him, that’s how I strained my back" The 2nd patient arrives looking as if he has been in a car wreck. The doctor said "My previous patient looked bad, but you look terrible. What the hell happened to you?" He replied, "You know I have been unemployed for a while now .Today was the first day at my new job. I forgot to set my alarm and was running late. I was running out of the building, getting dressed at the same time, and you won't believe it but I was hit by a fridge." The 3rd patient arrives; he looks even worse than the other two patients do. The doctor is shocked. Again asks, "What the hell happened to youuuuuu.....?" "Well I was sitting in a fridge & someone threw it from the 3rd floor"

We all have faith in one religion or the other. This faith if practiced faithfully keeps us on right track. India is country with many religions and cultures. This makes her a colorful country. We all appreciate and enjoy multi colors of multi religion country but if we think seriously we find just few colors. Whole country is limited in mainly the three colors- Saffron, Green and White. Well my purpose of this DP is different. I respect all religions and sectors but at same time cannot tolerate mischief in name of religion. It is Shravan month (Sawan) and at this time of year lakhs of people go to Haridwar, Rishikesh or even to Gangotri to bring the gangajal. These people travel alone or in groups for certain reasons. They are known as KANWARIAS. For the benefits of some, let me give a brief background of Kanwaria. Many of people make a wish and if it is fulfilled, they bring gangajal (Ganges water) from above places and offer it to Lord Shiva at their local temple. So to bring gangajal they start journey from home to Haridwar or other place by bus/train. They take dip in Ganges and start return journey on foot. They carry gangajal in plastic or other cans which are kept in bamboo made structure called Kanwar. The person carrying Kanwar is called Kanwaria. These Kanwarias walk back 300-600 km. on foot. So we should not forget their dedication and faith. Whenever something starts, it starts with simplicity and lots of respect. With passage of time, lots of ideas and concepts change and slowly it starts showing negative shades. Till few years back, these kanwarias had lots of respect amongst people and were greeted and treated in towns through which they passed. The welcome treatment to kanwarias in terms of sleeping place, food and bathing facility started taking shape of big camps with blaring music and other facilities. Various organizations have set their names in organizing these camps. Today’s camp offers fruit juice, cold drinks, various snacks, chats, kadhai milk, sweets and pure desi ghee food. These camps also have dancing floors. Each camp competes with other to attract more and more kanwarias. These camps have facility of police, first aid and medical. These camps are set up on main roads of Delhi. Most of Kanwarias of Haryana pass through Delhi and major streets are affected by their continuous movements. Now see how the things have changed from past. 1. Till last year you could see Kanwarias walking bare foot, but this year I have not seen one. Now they are in chappals and shoes. May be the global warming is responsible for this change. Added later - today I could find few barefoot. 2. Majority of Kanwarias are of young age group and now it has become sort of picnic and outing as free food and other facilities are available in abundance through entire route. What could be better than eat, dance and enjoy these 10-12 days. 3. Kanwaria yatra was mainly on bare foot but for last few years’ new additions like cycle, motorcycle, car and dak kanwar have taken place. Dak Kanwar is a concept where it is fixed up that in so many hours kanwar will reach the town. People hire the truck; load it with music system and big speakers. They have facility of sitting and sleeping in it. It is like relay race, one person would run for some distance and then other one will take kanwar from him and the earlier one will take rest in truck. This truck moves at slow speed and there are many trucks like that. You can understand the traffic chaos in Delhi. You can not harm a kanwaria not even by mistake; otherwise quarrels are turned easily in riots. 4. Heavy forces of police and health department are engaged during this period to take care of Kanwarias. What a waste of man power. 5. Good restaurants, ashrams and hotels avoid these kanwarias for food and stay as they are known to engage in drinking and other forms of getting high. They demand for cheap food and if not given, damage the property. They also leave the rooms dirty and messy by vomiting after consumption of ……….. 6. In name of safety Kanwarias carry hockey sticks and base ball bat. When in group, they show off violence. The reason for this violence is their background, but you have to tolerate them. So for most of Delhites the well respected Kanwarias have become pain. Most of us have to spend long hours in traffic jams as everything has to stop but kanwaria. Nowadays there are lots of fashion accessories to give a cool look to Kanwaria. There are many highly educated people also taking up this yatra but some bad elements make people to think same of all kanwarias. My purpose is not to criticize Kanwarias but to think upon how we change the good causes in bad ones.

A successful business man was growing old and knew it was time to choose a successor to take over the business. Instead of choosing one of his Directors or his children, he decided to do something different. He called all the young executives in his company together. He said, "It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO. I have decided to choose one of you. "The young executives were Shocked, but the boss continued. "I am going to give each one of you a SEED today - one very special SEED. I want you to plant the seed, water it, and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from the seed I have given you. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next CEO." One man, named Jim, was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly, told his wife the story. She helped him get a pot, soil and compost and he planted the seed. Everyday, he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other executives began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow. Jim kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew. Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by, still nothing. By now, others were talking about their plants, but Jim didn't have a plant and he felt like a failure. Six months went by -- still nothing in Jim's pot. He just knew he had killed his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Jim didn't say anything to his colleagues, however. He just kept watering and fertilizing the soil - He so wanted the seed to grow. A year finally went by and all the young executives of the company brought their plants to the CEO for inspection. Jim told his wife that he wasn't going to take an empty pot. But she asked him to be honest about what happened. Jim felt sick to his stomach, it was going to be the most embarrassing moment of his life, but he knew his wife was right. He took his empty pot to the board room. When Jim arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other executives. They were beautiful -- in all shapes and sizes. Jim put his empty pot on the floor and many of his colleagues laughed, a few felt sorry for him! When the CEO arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted his young executives. Jim just tried to hide in the back. "My, what great plants, trees, and flowers you have grown," said the CEO. "Today one of you will be appointed the next CEO!" All of a sudden, the CEO spotted Jim at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered the Financial Director to bring him to the front. Jim was terrified. He thought, "The CEO knows I'm a failure! Maybe he will have me fired!" When Jim got to the front, the CEO asked him what had happened to his seed - Jim told him the story. The CEO asked everyone to sit down except Jim. He looked at Jim, and then announced to the young executives, "Behold your next Chief Executive Officer! His name is Jim!" Jim couldn't believe it. Jim couldn't even grow his seed. "How could he be the new CEO?" the others said. Then the CEO said, "One year ago today, I gave everyone in this room a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds; they were dead - it was not possible for them to grow. All of you, except Jim, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Jim was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new Chief Executive Officer!" * If you plant honesty, you will reap trust
* If you plant goodness, you will reap friends
* If you plant humility, you will reap greatness
* If you plant perseverance, you will reap contentment
* If you plant consideration, you will reap perspective
* If you plant hard work, you will reap success
* If you plant forgiveness, you will reap reconciliation
* If you plant faith in God , you will reap a harvest
So, be careful what you plant now; it will determine what you will reap later..
