Child Abuse--The Worst Face of Humanity

Posted on Jul 16, 2008 under Concern

"No Papa No …" I read the heading in the Times of India almost 15 years ago when I was too young to even understand the difficult vocabulary of the news paper article. I still remember the article had a painted picture of sobbing girl and I began reading it … and with every line it became more and more difficult for me to understand the words like "Molestation", "Rape", "Sexual abuse", etc., which were beyond my limited knowledge about sex at the age of eleven. Before someone could catch me, I hid it in the most unreachable corner of my room)

Years later… at our tenth class farewell, "Amol"(name changed) my best friend was missing from the party. It kept me very uncomfortable throughout, knowing the fact that he was expecting to be the Mr. Evening as he was the cutest kid of the school. After the party was over, I requested Avinash to drop me at Amol's place. I was about to press the bell of "Gupta Residence" when I heard a sobbing noise. I followed the sound only to find Amol behind the car in his father's garage. He hugged me tight and cried. When I asked him to come out he told me he could not walk...(He was sexually abused by his tenant whom he was quite fond off)…I managed to bring him home somehow. He was scared that his father would beat him even more if he gets to know what happened as he blindly believed the 28 year old decent looking studious tenant rather than his own son. That night while Amol cried and slept. After sometime, I ransacked my room to find the same article which was beyond my understanding level some year back. I realized Amol was also a Victim of a Child Sexual Abuse.

"Child sexual abuse refers Non-consensual, forced physical sexual behavior such as rape or sexual assault when the victim is a minor".

The story never ended with Amol and in India it has become a never ending story. Rather, reality of most of the children. As per the last year’s survey by TOI "more than 53% of children in India are subjected to sexual abuse", and majority of the cases are not even reported.

In India typically, parents are very careful about the friends we roam around. Even Amols parents Mr. & Mrs. Gupta enquired every now and then if I use to booze or smoke and ensured that they met every guy Amol was friends with and kept checking the same old "Beta aap smoke to nahi karte na?" "Beta aap drink to nahi karte na?" They even kept and eye on Amol's elder sister Akansha who turned nineteen the same year if she is loitering around because they were worried she might bring home some unwanted shame. But did they check the growing fondness that Amol shared with the tenant? (He is a boy what will happen to him!) Did they ever keep an eye on Akansha when she was probably five and was left behind to play at a neighbor's house? (No because then they were not worried of pregnancy).

Another case just added to long pending cases, we read, we know and we try to hush the matters because we are ashamed of accepting the fact that such animals exist in this society.

And with due respect to animals, these people are worst than animals, because even animals don't degrade themselves to such category.
What would you say to a 6 months old girl child who was left in the orphanage by her mother , because she was being abused by her father and the lady found it the only way of saving the child from the her own husband?

But thankfully in this case the mother was intelligent and aware enough to accept the fact, which is mostly missing in majority of similar cases.

This is probably an everyday affair in our households where trustworthy people like a close relative, friend, tuition teacher, and servant are doing such a horrendous crime. But the lack of recognition, acceptance and inhibitions; just encourage them more and make the lives of innocent kids, pure hell.

Dear Sukriti...

I know your special day is reaching its end ... and I wonder how good/bad/okay it would have been, knowing the fact that you are alone in that city which is unknown to you till now. Where the neighbour next to you is not even aware if someone exist next to his flat/house.. (Not that You expect but remember the small town stay days where everyone knew everyone and was involved in happy and sad moments of each other and how others around us where more interested in our life, career, marriage etc than our own parents).

I remember your last B'day... how gave you a surprise when we knocked your door @ exact 12 Midnight with a BIG Cake, Ribons, Ballons .. yaad hai ? .. it was fun to see your surprised face and the tear that just kept peeping from the corner of your eyes (Khushi ke Aasoon).

I wish I can turn the cycle back to 365 days when it was easy to reach out and celebrate each other. Today what i could do max was to wish you over the phone and ask you to treat yourself (sigh)...I felt how helpless we have become over a period of time ... our priorities has shifted from "what we want to do .. to .. what we need to do"...

I recollect something which I wrote on my Birthday eve when i sat back between gifts and leftover cake... Just wanna share the same with you and I am sure you will comprehend somewhere with it.

As the birthday ends ... and i sit next to the blown candles ..
flying wrapping papers .. priceless gifts ... speaking cards .... acknowledging letters ... and half eaten cake piece ...

I realise the value my presence hold in LIFE of so many people,...
who were busy celebrating me ... wishing me luck love and long life ...

I wonder if i have really made any difference in the LIFE of many,
who crossed my lane sometime or the other ....
Have i really touched the way they acknowledge "I Did" ???
I keep questioning myself ...
Has it been worth being born and celebrating the Birth every year ??
Am i actually convinced with my own existence
and purpose to be in the world ...

Amidst of music, dance, booze, hugs kisses and moves....
I have started celebrating myself ... and will do
till I am convinced that I actually made some difference to someone's life....

People are so happy celebrating my birth every years ..
till now i gave them facts to celebrate ..
now on will give them a beautiful reason too...

Thats My B'days resolution!!!

I wish you can come up with yours Su ...

Happy B'Day Sukriti

Yours ManZ

Dear Silky,

Its 1'o Clock and I am sure somewhere of this GLOBE in our very own India you will be still busy gathering wishes of Love, Luck and Life, from your loved one's and I just want you to know that somewhere in someother city ... someone is busy wishing you a wonderful B'day and a great year ahead.

Here is something just for you Gal:

Life is sometimes funny,
we loose a year and we celebrate it with 'JOY',
They all gather to wish us and I wonder 'WHY',

When the baloons are burst and Cake is Cut
Friends sing in Joy and Behave as a 'Nut',
We make fun of others and laugh out our 'Gut'
Once celebration is over with GoodBye's and My house Door is 'SHUT'
I sit back to realise how i have grown through years

I remember my days of rise and fall
the days when I couldn't sail through at all...
I still did, I never waited, I got up and walk
When life threw at me questions .. I ensured that I talk,
I might not have been what my dad desired
but i did, what my mom Taught..
I reminded myself to be 'HUMAN' no matter What.

I am happy that i lived most of it, if not All
But whenever I stood up, I looked 'TALL'
When I think of all these Reasons,
I realise that why they 'Celebrate'
I might have lost another year
But 'I ensured it was GREAT'

Happy B'day Gal --

Keep the everlasting smile on your face.. and always be the human you are.
Live Life to the fullest.

I dont wanna wish you long life -- i wanna wish you life worth Living.
If you Don't have a Smile I will give you Mine :)
--------------------------

P.S: I Request all My MSian Friend to get together and wish our all time help Silky

Regards

Gautam

Revealed...

You caught me atlast ...
For Me it was like a broken Fast ...
Moment which just slipped so unplanned ... You weren't expected ofcourse it was my demand ...

I was writing the story right ? ... but you stole some lines ---

I M glad you did ... you have taken the plot to the next level

But what next ??? I m thinking where to take the story next ...

How about choosing the climax first .... and then slowly weave the whole story to reach that end ....

Help me with the "End" .... for the story which i "Begun"
