Only their erstwhile Course M.A. in PMIR now rechristened as M.A. in HRM & LR has industry value. All other Courses are not half as valued, and I know of scores of alumni of such Courses who have struggled for their livelihood and eventually moved on to other careers, and are doing well there. For d...ecades TISS's M.A. in PMIR was the primary Course which was highly valued by the corporate sector. TISS marketed its other Courses in Social Work riding on this popularity of its PMIR Course, but over 90% of the graduates of other Courses move on to other fields / careers within few months or years of graduating. Though TISS is known for its quality research and studies, I wish TISS had studied this aspect of their educational venture too, so that more of its graduates of non-PMIR Courses could pursue their careers as desired, without having to move on to other careers to earn their living. It's such a shame most do so.Read More

Yes, TISS is a very popular educational and research institute (deemed university) and is renowned for its high quality social science research and white papers. TISS is consulted by State Govt and other Govt Depts. to research / study and provide a report on various social matters, like slum-rehabi...litation, healthcare for slum-dwellers or in rural areas, etc. However, be aware that doing a M.A. in Social Work will not GUARANTEE you any work. I know of many alumni of TISS who had done this course and have moved on to other professions to earn their livelihood. Am not sure if the Institute itself will share this (provided they have it) but over 90% of their alumni of Social Work courses end up moving on to other careers within 2-4 years of graduating from TISS. Only their PMIR (Personnel Management & Industrial Relations) Course is treated as prestigious by the corporate sector, considered among the top ones for HR roles. Other Courses have been riding on the success of this Course for many decades, so beware of new Courses offered by various Schools of TISS now and do your due diligence on career prospects before you enroll into a Course.Read More

@suny0013, perhaps you could have shared how this company approaches gullible candidates, so potential candidates can be forewarned. There are plenty of such bogus companies, particularly those who claim to offer jobs with blue-chip IT firms, and ones which offer 'online' jobs, etc. People fall for ...such offers out of ignorance and desperation. There must be some Govt Dept. or Corporate sector firm which must be looking into such frauds.Read More

Very detailed and informative post (though many details are available verbatim on www.dhamma.org). Some close friends and relatives have attended the 10-day course at Igatpuri couple of years ago, and for sometime now I have been trying to apply for one myself. However, I noticed that their Centers ...in Igatpuri and Gorai (Mumbai) are dedicated to either Old Students or Corporate Executives. I wish to attend it in my personal capacity and would prefer Igatpuri (for its better climate). Also, I am diabetic, so will need to eat something every 4-5 hours, and just can't skip dinner altogether. Can someone guide me how such attendees manage ? Will be grateful If someone can provide contact details of Centers in Igatpuri / Navi Mumbai. Would help clarify my doubts before I apply for a 10-day course.Read More

Yes, I have not been able to redeem any points from my TataCard account in which I had accumulated almost 2000 points (remember each point on Tatacard is worth Re 1). I have been following up with them since November 2012, and they have replaced my Card several times, yet I can't redeem any points. ...In fact, when I had been to one of their redemption partners, Croma in Mumbai couple of times in recent months, I was told there is ZERO points in my a/c. On contacting the Tatacard Customer Care, I learnt that the loyalty no my Card was different from what their back-end system was configured with (guess, they replaced my Card so many times that they themselves lost track of which was the REAL Loyalty No I am assigned). Besides, though I have been following up with them for many months now, each month's e-Statement shows certain points as 'expired', which is unfair as their own system doesn't allow me to redeem points at their partner outlets. Now my points are down to almost Rs. 1000. If I had the time, I would have filed a case against TataCards in the Consumer Court as well as with the Banking Ombudsman for deficiency in service levels, and loss of points for no fault of mine. But we all know how long these cases go on, and I would rather put my time, energy and efforts into more productive activities. Such a shame this happens in the so-called 'trusted' business group.Read More

Besides, when I posted my detailed review following a harrowing experience, they promptly removed it from the site. ...You'll notice how 99% 'reviews' on JustDial.com are just one line mentioning the 'customer's' email / phone no. No real feedback on services availed, which should give an indication of how unethical they are. Yes, I agree with you @bhattacharyasripa as I am one of those who grew up wearing an HMT hand-wound watch since school days. It lasted me for long, before it was replaced by the then new-tech quartz watch by a 'new' company called Titan. I still have the HMT watch which is in perfect working conditi...on over 20 years old now. Though I have spent more than the cost of the Titan quartz watch on replacement of its battery and leather strap every 2-3 years, the HMT watch has been very consistent. Like you mentioned, the govt has deliberately 'killed' this fabulous watch company enabling private watch makers make windfall profits for over 2 decades. It's similar to the telecom sector where BSNL / MTNL have been lagging in market share, despite good networks, as the private sector lobby has ensured that they get favourable policies formed for their benefits.Read More

In these times of recession, there are hordes of job-seekers who approach placement agencies in their respective cities. Many companies do not advertise their job openings and instead engage such agencies who screen candidates for the hiring firm too. Most large companies have a mix of both, i.e. hi...re local placement agencies as well as have a paid Employer Login for their HR to sift through Resumes to select candidates for niche positions. Job sites like Naukri.com have a larger database of job-seekers simply because of their Pan-India reach, but their profiles are in no way superior to that with regional Placement Agencies.Read More

Absolutely agree. Had fallen victim to similar persuation from them few years ago, and was shocked to notice later that both the Cover Letter and Resume were completely plagiarized from some websites hosted abroad. When I confronted their Customer Care about the same they simply disconnected the lin...e. The same thing was experienced by a friend on Monsterindia.com as well, who are equally dishonest. This is a big scam which has never got the attention it deserves, as 100s or 1000s of job-seekers continue to fall for such 'Premium Services' from dishonest job sites like Naukri, Monster, etc. In my opinion, it is best to seek professional services from a genuine career counsellor or one who has a proven track record (can get references). Wish the enthusiastic media would highlight mega-scams in this industry, on which the entire industry thrives.Read More

Very true @shraddhabhange. What is worse is Croma, where I have purchased many items, shamelessly carries the 'We help you buy' tagline in their promotions, but have rarely found their staff well informed (esp. on electronics / Computers sections) to help choose between brands. Guess they too have s...ales targets and higher margins on certain brands which they would like to push (for a higher commission ?). After I posted the above feedback, and on certain other Consumer complaints websites, Croma got in touch with me and promptly got the laptop shifted to another service center and I got my repaired laptop within a week. Wish they had not wasted my 2 months dragging their feet on another Service Center of Acer (M/s Newtech Computers, Powai) which kept my laptop in 'cold storage'. Strangely, Newtech Computers is the sole Acer ASP with which Croma has a tie-up for Croma Extended Warranty products in whole of Mumbai.Read More

Dec 10, 2012 11:46 AM (Updated Dec 10, 2012 11:49 AM)

I have used the CDMA based Data Cards of both Reliance NetConnect and have also been a long time user of Tata Photon Plus (3.1Mbps) connection in Mumbai. Both operate on CDMA tech which is better suited for data traffic, and are much better than 3G Data Cards offered by GSM operators like Airtel and... Idea. Though their tariff plans (of CDMA & 3G Data Cards) are similar, I have found Tata Photon & Reliance NetConnect to be far more reliable though both offer varying speeds (at times as low as 2G GPRS connections !). One can opt for MTNL's 3G Data Card in Mumbai / Delhi, but be prepared to put up with their usual laid-back approach to resolving any issues you may face with their network / Data Card. There's also the issue of roaming outside these two cities (guess the MTNL Data Card will try to hook to BSNL network ?). I also understand that CDMA-based Data Cards offer Pan-India free roaming, while 3G operators charge higher while in 'roaming'. Guess this should help you take an informed decision. Good luck !!Read More

Thanks Hitesh for sharing your user experience of Idea 3G Data Card. It would have helped if you had also mentioned which city you used it in, as I believe 3G network reach and strength varies from city to city. I use Tata Photon Plus (CDMA Tech, 3.1Mbps) in Mumbai, and have found it to vary in spee...ds too. It gives me better speeds in Mumbai than in Delhi where I travel on work sometimes. Also, I understand that CDMA technology is better suited to carry data than GSM, which is more suited to carry voice traffic. Hence, I guess your experience with Reliance NetConnect may have been better than Idea's 3G Data Card usage. Unlike 2G voice plans, the CDMA / 3G Data Plans have hardly changed since they were launched about 4 years ago. Hope TRAI looks into it to help subscribers get better deals and service levels.Read More
