Writers, Friends & Critics

Oct 02, 2009 04:11 PM

Well... I don't know what you usually like but of late I have started reading more of Indian authors. In particular I have taken to reading books of RK Narayan. Here's a selection of his books I recommend - 1. The English Teach - highly recommended, almost his autobiography, touching story, best ...book in my view. 2. Bachelor of Arts - will take you back to your graduation days. 3. Waiting for the Mahatma - am reading this one now, shows human nature in it's true sense. 4. The Guide - trust me, the book is better than the Dev Anand film 5. Man Eaters of Malgudi - there's an element of mystery to it. Plus there are several short stories too. Let me know if you pick any of these. Jerry, the MouseRead More

Worst of the Worst Hindi Movies of the decade

Oct 02, 2009 12:34 PM

Hahaha After reading this article, I am convinced that thank god Mouthshut didn't exist at the time of 'Return of Jewel Thief' (1996) because I am sure it would've got an even worse rating than all these films put together :D

Fenil's Bollywood Talk # 68

Oct 01, 2009 10:23 PM

... Who said nobody is online today? The mouse still is online :P Coming to the movies, I will be watching both, over the next 2 weeks or so. Anything associated with Karan Johar has always been a big NO for me but since the film has Konkana, I shall watch it. She is immensely talented (plus, I f...ind her cute;-) ). Then on to DKD, it's been a long time since a film came where you can give your mind some rest while watching it :D I'm sure it's gonna be a good comedy. Jerry, the MouseRead More

I have a friend who is in the Indian Navy and is now based in Vishakapatnam. He has uploaded so many pictures of the city that it seems to me that I have literally visited each and every place of interest there, despite never going there. And your review just reminds me of all those places I've s...een in his picture albums. :) And how I wish to be inside a submarine! Jerry, the MouseRead More

I have used Flashget for many years as my default download manager. It does all the things described above and the best part is that it is open source now! Broken download management is extremely good in it. You can download it by searching for it on download.com

Your pics and now your review make me want to go to Leh right away! It's actually hard to believe that despite being the second most populous country in the world there is still such an isolated and peaceful place in our country. Leh is now on top of my list of MUST VISITs. Jerry, the Mouse

While your review is appreciated, it will be better if you write under the right category. This is the category for the train by this name. If the category for the place you wrote did not exist then please kindly request for it.

There ain’t no greener pasture…

Is the grass geener on the other side? I guess not! Your DP just demonstrated it. In a different way I have felt the pains this lady has gone through. As I was just hitting my teens my father had a serious illness due to which he was hospitalized for about 3 weeks followed by nearly 4 months recuper...ation at home. It was a painful time for me and my family and just like that lady I too longed for the simple joys of life; joys that were so dear to a 13 year old boy. It wasn’t so tough for me as was for this lady you’ve described but I can relate to her situation easily. And yet when everything got sorted out and things became normal at home, the very things I desired for didn’t look so good after all. On a completely different note, the following line of your DP has inspired me to pen (rather, key) down a DP after a long time - The lady spoke and spoke and spoke. She narrated her entire life story to mom! It shall come very soon. Jerry, the MouseRead More

Well not many people know that a former and famous Mouthshut member even performs at Kyra. He is Rajeev, the lead singer of Rajeev and the Rebels. You can follow them on Facebook as well, if you have an account there. They are not due to perform in the near future but if you are keen on visiting Kyr...a soon then do try to see their performance. I am sure it will be good. Jerry, the MouseRead More

Each browser has a learning curve. If you have problems with Firefox gobbling up screen space then you can try raising your screen resolution. For instance I use 1280 x 800 resolution on my laptop (even though higher resolution is available) and it works just fine for me. Then again, you should not ...install all kinds of different toolbars in Firefox. Just one toolbar like Google or Yahoo's is enough for most needs. Memory management, especially in Windows is a problem with Firefox and they are working on it. FFx 4.0 will be much faster, if reports are to be believed. Javascript works best in GChrome and the worst in IE 7/8. It must be noted that Google applications like maps, mail, etc run best in GChrome. I have observed that it uses a lot of cache downloaded from google applications to run them in future instances. And the developer version now even has support for some extensions like FFx. Your observations about Opera are correct. The only drawback is that there is no extension available for it. I miss my adblock for Opera, hence do not use it. You must try Safari for Windows. It is good too. Jerry, the MouseRead More

Fenil, to be honest the very concept of the movie (which I heard a day before I saw it) made me yawn and one hour into the movie I was feeling drowsy. The film is so boring that if I had been watching it alone I would've slept thru the latter half of it. I'm glad I was with friends whose friendly ba...nter didn't let me sleep. The film sucked and that's my opinion. I am of the view that Rani's career is nearing an end, especially if she carries on doing blunders like Dil Bole Hadippa. The likes of Priyanka, Deepika and Katrina have overtaken her in popularity and are immensely talented. Shahid Kapoor was good in this movie. After watching him in this movie and Kaminey previously I believe that he is becoming an excellent actor who has a good future in the industry. The soundtrack of the movie is pretty ordinary, nothing comes to my mind if I have to speak of the music. There you go, a mini review by me on this movie. We both have different thoughts on this movie, but to each it's own. Jerry, the MouseRead More

Hehe, I don't know how much you've visited the western world but in my view, UK sucks big time, primarily because of it's weather. Winter 2007-08 was the first time I arrived here and I didn't see sunshine for 4 looooooong months! It was depressing. I love the sun and would trade any day the sunshin...e of India or America for the cold weather of UK. Plus of course since I am an IT guy, I look at America as a land of opportunities, the kind which do not really exist in Europe. Jerry, the MouseRead More

It traces out the journeys made by the author between the east and the west coasts of USA and later down south to Mexico during the late 40s, questioning the American Ideal and searching of life itself. That's reason enough for me to start looking for this book. Jerry, the Mouse

Are you a photographer by profession? Hehe, don't mind, I'm just kidding. And if you really are a photographer by profession, then it's great! I've taken to photography as a hobby and I found this article extremely useful. Though I don't own a DSLR yet, it is on my list of most wanted things in life.... And your article has genuinely increased my interest in seeking a good DSLR. Time to check out Amazon! :) Jerry, the MouseRead More
