I was prompted by a friend on a social networking site: “Forget everything you have learnt so far, refresh yourself and then shoot any question you want to, to have a new meaning.” The tagline on his profile was – “I am both and nothing”. I asked: “What is the purpose of Life according to you?” And got his reply as below: I don't think there is a purpose of life well defined, I believe more likely to be as many purposes as we want to be; I believe 'the purpose' is to have as many experiences as we can have in life; I also believe that we make our path trough life by what we think, speak and do/make, that nothing is 'happening' accidentally, but as a result of what we did/made, told and thought; and I also believe that there is no 'me', 'you', 'them', we are all one - God, everyone is part of God, spark of the big flame, if you want, and we can be and do whatever we want, to be more specific, whatever we choose with all our heart, thoughts and facts; as there is nothing else but God, there is no evil/demon, stuff like that, but what we think and do with our mind; that's why (in only a few words) I said that I am both and nothing, because it's mine to choose whether I do good things (am angel) or do bad things (am demon); but I'm neither of them actually, these are my creations, the results of my actions, not me; I'm sorry for not speaking well enough English to be able to explain clearly what I want to say, but I hope you get the picture... Your comments!!!

1. The notion that talking on a cell phone while driving a car isn’t safe seems obvious, but still we don’t care about it, atleast most of us while driving. 2. Let us understand what happens exactly on the basis of a study conducted by University of South Carolina psychology department headed by associate professor of psychology Dr. Amit Almor. 3. The study is to provide a better understanding of why language – talking and listening, including on a cell phone – interferes with visual tasks, such as driving. 4. If is proved in different experiments that planning to speak and speaking put far more demands on brain’s resources than listening. 5. The attention level is four times more distracted while preparing to speak or speaking than when we are listening. 6. Reasons are: in conversation, people have the urge to contribute. We compete with the other person, in conversation. So the greater the urge to speak, the great will be the distraction from the visual task. 7. The participants could complete the visual task in front of them more easilywhen the projected voice also was in front that suggests 8. In the case of a car, an internal speaker phone could project a speaker’s voice from the front so that it occupies the same place as the visual task of driving. The same could be applied in remote classroom instruction, in PowerPoint presentations and in military and pilot training. 9. The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported in April 2008 that 25 percent of all car accidents are caused by distractions. A survey done by Nationwide Mutual Insurance in 2007 indicated that 73 percent of drivers talk on cell phones while driving. Given that cell-phone sales have vaulted to 254 million in February 2008 up from (4.3 million in 1990), according to the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association, there is good reason for researchers to study the brain and how talking and listening on a cell phone interferes with driving a car. Ultimate focus is not now ‘banning’ but finding out ways to ‘minimize the chances’ of meeting with an accident while talking on mobile and driving together. 10. Almor found that participants could complete the visual task in front of them more easily when the projected voice also was in front. This effect, while not so strong as the difference between preparing to speak or speaking and listening, “Either people are used to face-to-face communication or, when they engage in a language task, they create a mental representation in their mind and place the voice somewhere in space,” Almor said. “In this case, that space is in front of them, which suggests that it may be easier to have all things that require attention occupy the same space.” 11. Almor’s findings are particularly relevant in light of recent statistics. 12. At the University of South Carolina, Almor conducts research on language and memory (the brain’s ability to acquire, organize, revise and store information).

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY [WED] - JUNE 5
World Environment Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. Another resolution, adopted by the General Assembly the same day, led to the creation of UNEP. World Environment Day (WED) is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action. The World Environment Day slogan for 2008 is Kick the Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy. Recognizing that climate change is becoming the defining issue of our era, UNEP is asking countries, companies and communities to focus on greenhouse gas emissions and how to reduce them. The World Environment Day will highlight resources and initiatives that promote low carbon economies and life-styles, such as improved energy efficiency, alternative energy sources, forest conservation and eco-friendly consumption. Some of the things that we can do: A dopt a ‘green’ way of life B uy a Bicycle or fuel-efficient car C arpools D edicate your blog to World Environment Day on 5 June, Donate to an environmental cause Environmental education Follow Nature’s rules Go green Halla Bol (against global warming) Inform all your friends about WED Join an environmental group, Join UNEP’s carbon neutral network Keep your neighborhood clean (that includes your own house!) Love Nature Make Mouthshut Green Never litter Offset your emissions, Organic farming/cooking Plant a tree, Plastic bags: avoid them! Quick < i>Rainwater harvesting, Reduce, re-use, recycle, Replace your light-bulbs with energy saving ones Save paper, Sort rubbish, Switch off stand-by TV and computer Take action Use sustainable modes of transportation (walking, jogging, cycling, skating, carpool) Vehicle emission monitoring Waste less!: which otherwise means eat less Xpect environmental responsibility: which otherwise means own environmental responsibility Yes to Organic Zero emissions: No Farting by you, your bike or car…

On 31st May each year WHO celebrates World No Tobacco Day, highlighting the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocating for effective policies to reduce consumption. Tobacco use is the second cause of death globally and is currently responsible for killing one in 10 adults worldwide. The theme of World No Tobacco Day 2008 is Tobacco-Free Youth. Young people are aggressively targeted by the tobacco industry which spends billions of dollars each year marketing its products. To protect the world's youth from experimenting with tobacco and becoming regular users, this year's World No Tobacco Day campaign calls for a ban on all forms of tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship. WHO created World No Tobacco Day in 1987 to draw global attention to the tobacco epidemic and its lethal effects. Tobacco is the number one preventable epidemic that the health community faces. So just a short survey – how many of you are 100% tobacco free… so far in your life… And if you have assimilated some minute particles of tobacco in your body… what are your future plans… to increase tobacco contents in your body or to reduce it... and how? REMEMBER: You can make a difference! Help your society grow up tobacco free!

Shah Rukh Khan - “We had started with two outstanding victories to set the pace for IPL 20-20 cricket. Then, four times in a row, we have seen the match being given away at the last minute. The critics were quick to comment, but our war cry has never been silenced. If anything, the thirst for victory is now stronger in us. And our motto is strengthened by the faithful fans who chant along with us, even in our weakest moments, ‘Korbo! Lorbo! Jeetbo Re!’,” Hello, thoda aur wish karo, dish karo…Shahid Afridi - “I am extremely disappointed, I failed to contribute for the team with the bat. My team finished at bottom because of my ordinary form. It really hurts me.” Ek akele tum hi nahi pyaase is maikhane mein… Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Selector Ahmed – “We will not consider players’ performance in the IPL while selecting the national squad for the tri-nation series in Bangladesh next month. The 15-member side to be picked up shall be “purely on merit” ignoring Pakistan cricketers’ performance in the ongoing Twenty20 tournament.” Ab aisi jurrat karoge to nateeje bhugatne ke liye tayyar rehna… acha ab samjhe ham… political pressure bhi to hoga na… Vijay Mallya – “Absolutely we will be looking at England players, Some swapping around will have to be done but we will be looking at English players and I have set my team management working on the composition of the squad for next year.” Waise team composition se zyada team management ki zaroorat nahi lagti aapko? Dravid - “Definitely this IPL tournament is here to stay. It was designed in such a short span of time and hopefully it will come with better colours next year” yep, but think again, you will be watching, coaching, or playing in this format…?Tanvir Sohail - “A captain’s job is to get the best from his players and Warne has been fascinating, I enjoy playing under Warne. He is such a clever captain. He knows exactly how to attack a batsman and is absolutely clear in what he is doing on the field.” And openly smoking off the field…

However, we will be able to disclose the complete plan after June 2. Right now,
the entire concentration is on the on-going tournament.” khoob jamegi jab

Gilchrist says: “No doubt, it is frustrating.
I am not used to losing so many games on the trot since it never happened
during my stint with my national team. The people here would have wanted us to
be on top of the ladder. And, that would have added value to the investors in
the monetary sense also.” Koi baat nahi dost… jo

Who said What:
Dhoni: This happens when none of your
batsmen take responsibility. Players need to realize they can’t always slog,
they didn’t think while they were batting. The shot selection was bad and if at
all they would have thought about batting than we would not have lost the game.
Hey man, you are considering yourself
as Captain or a Batsman, when saying this! Dravid: Well, finally a win and it feels
good to go back smiling. Last few days through the tournament while returning
in the team bus you only saw grim faces but today all will be happy and we can
see a smiling face which is very good. We cannot turn things around in this
year’s Indian Premier League but we are looking towards the future and hoping
to spoil some team’s party. Checkout man! Mallaya may not be interested in
you Next Year!
Mallya vs Dravid vs Mallya: It’s
Mallya trouble again for former India
cricket captain Rahul
Dravid. After being flayed by
Bangalore Royal Challengers’ owner Vijay
Mallya for his team’s dismal show in the ongoing
Indian Premier League tournament, ‘The Wall’ is now facing the boot from Bank
of Baroda, headed by Mangalore
Devdas Mallya.
Ye Mallya raas nahi aaya Dravid ko!”
Excerpt from the Telegraph of the SMS sent by SRK
to his Knight Riders…
“Story time boys… I told you if you keep losing you have to bear with my
long, boring msgs…. This is your punishment…. Many times I have made movies
which don’t do well…. When I’m doing them, of course, I don’t know they won’t
do well…. The story is written by somebody else and I just do my bit as an
actor. But I have a way of dealing with flop stories…, I try my best to keep my
character in the film at a level that it makes a failed story also special for
me….Chak de IPL
Ravi Bopara in England:
England’s middle
order bat Ravi Bopara has threatened to join the Indian Premier League if
selectors don’t reward his good form with a recall to the national side. The
23-year-old player of Indian origin, who had earlier claimed refusing a
“six-figure sum” offer from one of the IPL franchises, said he would reconsider
his decision if he fails to stage a comeback to the side by the next season.

With IPL completing a month, the lesser mortals have churned out the

Dada what is this:
Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Sourav Ganguly has denied reports of a
rift between him and team owner Shah Rukh Khan over team composition and
tactical matters, and said he will clear the matter soon. Jab rift nahi hai

The Pangea Day Mission & Purpose: Pangea
Day is a global event bringing the world together through film.
Why? In a world where people are
often divided by borders, difference, and conflict, it's easy to lose sight of
what we all have in common. Pangea Day seeks to overcome that – to help people
see themselves in others – through the power of film.
The Pangea Day Event Started
at 18:00 GMT on May 10, 2008,
locations in Cairo, Kigali,
London, Los Angeles,
Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro
will be linked for a live program of powerful films, live music, and visionary
speakers. The entire program will be broadcast – in seven languages – to
millions of people worldwide through the internet, television, and mobile
phones.
The 24 short films to be featured have been selected from an
international competition that generated more than 2,500 submissions from over
one hundred countries. The films were chosen based on their ability to inspire,
transform, and allow us see the world through another person's eyes.
The program includes a number of exceptional speakers and musical
performers. Queen Noor of Jordan,
CNN's Christiane Amanpour,
musician/activist Bob
Geldof, and Iranian rock phenom
Hypernova are among those taking part.
What Will Happen After Pangea Day
People inspired by Pangea Day will have the
opportunity to participate in community-building activities around the world.
Through the live program, the Pangea Day web site, and self-organized local
events, everyday people will be connected with extraordinary activists and organizations.
Many of the films and performances seen on Pangea Day will be made
available on the Web and via mobile phone, alongside open forums for discussion
and ideas for how to take social action.
A Pangea Day documentary will be created to catalyze future activities,
and dozens of talented filmmakers will make strides in their careers.
History
In 2006, filmmaker Jehane Noujaim won the TED
Prize, an annual award granted at the TED Conference.
She was granted $100,000, and more important, a wish to change the world. Her
wish was to create a day in which the world came together through film. Pangea
Day grew out of that wish…
