The Gita and I

Posted on Oct 14, 2009 under General

"Karmanye wadhikaraste....." You have right to do the work only, without bugging your head over its results. Also, You cant stop working in anticipation of negative results.
Most of us know this sloka from The Gita. isnt it? But how is it possible? until and unless i think about the probable result of a certain work, can i set my goal? when i remember this particular sloka by the way? its when my work doesnt bring me the expected result, then only. to console my un-consolable soul...is this then for the loosers?
even if it is....whats the harm in it? it is saving me from getting frustrated. as it is saving me from getting frustrated, it is saving me from running to a psychologist as well. consequently my hard-earned money. WOW.......
nowadays i think its not so bad idea to blame your "naseeb" or the lines at your hand or the misdeeds in your past life for your present failuers. it keeps your mind kool. ha,ha,ha........

Simply speechless

Posted on Aug 13, 2009 under General

I could not stop myself from sharing this with you people. you know what....the day before yesterday was one of the memorable days of my life. I was teaching at a B-School in Kolkata for the past 5 months. recently i left the organization and the day before yesterday was my last day there. Some 4-5 MBA students actually touched my feet asking my blessings. spellbound........speechless..
..i understood the responsibility of a teacher better than before. i just prayed to God for his blessings so that i may receive this respect for the rest of my life.....

Yeh Lamha Filhaal ji Lene do...

Posted on Jul 12, 2009 under General

You know what....today is my B'day and everyone simply forgot...even my parents.....angry and of course sad, I remembered something told by Swami Vivekananda. "As you have born, try to leave your impression on this earth so that people will remember you even after death".

hah!! no one is remembering me on my B'day when I am alive !! and they are talking about after my death !! What should I do? I must take some cue from our beloved Mayawati who upgraded the scenic beauty of her state by erecting her statues...see, how clever she is...people will definitely remember her..(its a totally different and personal case if it will generate irritation in the mind of the tax payer. Its his own subjective view you know....)

Encouraged by her, I thought to gift all my family and friends a special calendar next year, where my B'day will be mentioned in larger fonts in red colour !! And from the page of the month January it will remind all onlookers that "There are only six months left for the B'day of this sweet, cute, lovely, beautiful, intelligent (and the list goes on.....) girl...."

I finally enjoyed it my own way. "Sandesh r kochuri" (food items) at a snacks corner, a Movie at Fame and a new digital camera...a gift to myself. Now I am feeling good and in mood to cook something special for the diner.

A LONELY EVENING

Posted on Jul 04, 2009 under General

I was horribly upset yesterday due to some personal problems. Almost frustrated, I decided to cool down by reading some shlokas from Gita. I read some of the chapters when I was in school and used to like the second one. So, I started with that. What caught my fancy yesterday was “khudrang hridayo dourbalyang tejyo tistha parantapa”. This was where Sri Krishna was asking Arjuna to write off all the weakness from his heart and to prepare for war.

Ahh! These small weaknesses….generally we all have. Well, I am thinking not exactly the way Arjuna was before the battle. My weaknesses are different. I like someone and I expect his/her likings in response. When I don’t get that, I feel upset….small-small weaknesses of heart……. So, I was almost set to take a resolution….’from now onwards I will be above all weakness’.

But then, one of my friends said, “wont that be inhumane?”. True. What will be left to us if we subtract the emotions? So, I thought may be this is applicable only to people like me. Facing the “angur fal tak” (grape is sour only when u don’t get it) situation. Else, how could we sooth our mind??.....

The news that left me numb............

Posted on Mar 27, 2009 under social issues

hi friends, i dont know what wd i say.........just go throgh the news

NAGPUR:
Suddenly there seem to be Josef Fritzls all around. Hingna Police have nabbed a 35-year-old who can be called local version of Austrian dungeon dad. Culprit Radheshyam Shiv, like Fritzl and Mumbai’s Kishore Chauhan, sexually abused his eldest daughter for a prolonged period.
Hingna police, who placed Shiv under arrest in the wee hours of Thursday, said that the 15-year-old victim had stated that she was being abused for four years. On Tuesday night, the girl was allegedly raped by his father at their Isasani village home. Shiv called his daughter to massage his legs and forced himself upon her.
Shiv’s two other daughters and two sons were present at home but in another room. The villagers, who learnt of the girl’s abuse, convinced her to approach the police.
The girl, eldest of the six siblings, was suffering abuse for long but had failed to muster enough courage to either protest her father’s diabolical acts or tell them to others. Shiv, said police, regularly tortured his family. His tormented wife left the village for her father’s place in Kishanpur in Madhya Pradesh.
The children also accompanied their mother. Later, their three daughters and two sons returned but his wife remained at her father’s place with one daughter.
The girl was taken to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital for medical examination

Nano Venturing the Indian Auto Market: Would it be Profitable?

Posted on Mar 24, 2009 under marketing fandas

Analysts felt that with a GDP over trillion dollars which was growing at 9% (as of early 2008), and per capita income of $1000, Indian market had good potential for a car like Nano. Being priced at Rs. 1lakh, the equated monthly installment (EMI) for Nano at 12% (the existing rate as of 2008) would be around Rs. 2200 and Rs.3200 per month for five and three year loans respectively, which was quite affordable to the Indian middle class. However, as a low cost car, Nano was expected to have only 5% net margin (Rs. 5000 per unit) and hence had to be sold in large numbers to become a profitable venture. “It is unlikely that profits will materialize until production volumes exceed 400,000 units per annum. Margins will be razor thin – negative in the short term – and it will only make a meaningful contribution to Tata Motors’ overall profits once volumes exceed 500,000 units,” remarked an analyst.

On the other hand, some people were concerned over Nano’s quality, safety, and emission standards. Some people opined that at such a low price the company would not be able to provide reliable parts. In addition, the car would not have safety features such as the air bag because of the cost constraint. Besides, as Tata Motors targeted to sell Nano in huge volumes to make profit, the environmentalists raised concerns about the damage this will do to atmosphere and also the congestion it would create in cities. However, Tata remarked that these were fake concerns of a small section of people who had grudge to others’ aspiration to improve the quality of life. According to him, while they did not have any problem with other auto manufacturers’ production growth, then they should not have problem with Nano. He further mentioned that “the car is fuel-efficient (does 50 miles to the gallon) and its tailpipe emissions are less than that of some two-wheelers in the market. It conforms to Bharat III emission norms and the engine meets the Euro III standards on exhaust….”
As far as Nano’s positioning was concerned, Ravi Kant, the managing director of Tata Motors, remarked that Nano would not be an urban-centric car and would target the semi-urban and rural markets equally. “It is a car that will go to every nook and corner of the country, even to where people travel by un-mechanised transport or by foot.” With Nano, Tata Motors targeted to fill the gap between the four-wheeler and two-wheeler segment. “After a certain point in the four-wheeler segment, you suddenly drop to two wheelers. In between, there is a gap. In a manner of speaking, you can say that three-wheelers fill the gap, but it is a mode of public transport in India. So, the gap remained,” commented Tata.

As of 2007, two-wheeler and car sales in India were 7.5 million and 1 million units respectively. Analysts felt that even if Tata Motors could convert 10% two-wheelers owners to Nano, it would be able to sale 750,000 units a year. This is higher than the sales target set by the company – 250,000 units annually. However, some analysts felt that the above assumption had a flaw. According to them more than 90% of two-wheelers sold in India were in the Rs. 30,000 to 40,000 ranges. These bikers were highly sensitive to purchase-price, fuel efficiency and maintenance cost. As Nano would cost about 3 times higher and give 20-25 km mileage as against bike’s 60 km, analysts felt that this segment of bikers might not migrate to Nano. Besides, even minor changes in EMI rates could play havoc with the potential buyer’s decision.

Yeh Hai Kolkata Meri Jaan

Posted on Mar 10, 2009 under General

Think of Kolkata and what picture comes to your mind? The Howrah bridge, the victoria and then... its the horrible traffic jam...then all those buses and local trains with people hanging onto....the n number of bandhs called by Mamata Banerjee or CPM or CPM supported someone.....all those "Brigade chalo" slogans........endless political gatherings (where they pay people to attend) and senseless speeches....leave aside all those sweating summer and pollusion enhancing kanta tel autos...DISGUSTING! you must be thinking. even I also feel that way at times. But I like the sense of humor that its residents have. Be it in a packed bus or be it in a homely adda.

I want to share one incident. one day one friend of mine went to gariahat to buy a ladies bag. she hardly liked what the salesman was showing in a shop. so, she stopped the salesman saying..."wait. dont show me more varity. I will come back to u after some time". the man replied "please didi.....dont go away by saying I will come back. years ago Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose also said that and he never came back"..........

IT HAPPENS ONLY IN KOLKATA

Love, lust and adultery (Continued)

SEEMA'S DIARY (II)

But I cant blame my husband entirely for my state. can I? In the initial days he used to come to me. and I used to turn him down. I was just not able to forget Raja. Not able to forget how fulfilled I felt when he kissed me........there was so much difference when my husband touched. It was full of lust only. and now I think that was quite natural. We hardly knew each other when we got married. So, love didnt evolve at all. I tried to explain my self.....'oh. come on, this man is your husband. u r supposed to be with him throughout your life both in good and bad times...come on girl'. But, could the flesh only give you any pleasure? It cant. atleast for me. being a girl child I had to face so many unwanted touches. sometimes even from supposed to be fatherly figures. all those only increased my irritation towards men with time.

ha,ha,ha....I felt like laughing at myself. what a confused woman!! pity on me. doesnt know what she wants. oh. all these "women"....such complex creatures on earth!! as they say....."deba na jananti, kuto manushya" (even Gods dont know what women want. how could human beings?!!)

But, I tried to accept my marriage. tried to love my hubby. he is not a croocked fellow at all. in fact, quite sweet at times.

The bus reached its destination. my cell was ringing. oh. its sharmila. one of my good friends.

cricket, stardom and the terrorists

Posted on Mar 04, 2009 under General

obviously I could not believe my ears when I heard one of my colleagues shouting "Hey! Sri Lankan cricketers are hit by bullets in Pakistan". The news was shocking. Like everyone else, I was thinking "why"? one reason could be that to get noticed in the subcontinent.......cricketers are a good target. we people are so passionate about cricket. it will sure make headlines in every news papers and channels. in fact, it will fetch International media as the hype around cricket here is quite well known. whatever the reason may be.....it will sure badly affect IPL this year. infact it might spell some uncertainity over the event. hey, may be the Pakistani terrorists were jealous by all those glamour and money of IPL. so, to hamper that they have done this........who knows!!
