Whats in a Search?

Posted on Mar 31, 2008 under General

The best fun part in having your own blog is that, at times your blog appears in totally weird search key words, nothing to do with the content. So here are some such searches which lead to my blog.

Note: To those who do not have much idea of blogs and blogging, you have portals which gives you a statistical analysis of your blog. So you can see for what key words is your blog appearing in the search listing.

She Dominates Him-Dog- Sorry no kinky stuff on my blog at all. Yeah in the Korean movie "My Sassy Girl", she does dominate him, but not in the kinky way please.

picture of preeti ganguly and deven verma
-
Who on earth wants to see a picture of Preeti Ganguly and Deven Verma, of all the people together? I really would love to meet that person. The only time i recall they were in the same movie was "Khatta Meetha".
Sleepless Sameera Reddy- I can only conclude two things. Either Sameera Reddy must be a certified insomniac like me or else she must have taken my suggestion in my review on "Race" seriously, and auditioned for a Mallu soft porn movie called "Sleepless Nights".
what is denzel washington theoretical personality approach- No Clue here. Can any one enlighten me on this?
Tom Hanks and Ramanujan-Ok i know that Hollywood is planning to come up with a movie on Ramanujan's biography "The Man Who Knew Infinity", but to the best of my knowledge i dont think Tom Hanks is involved in any way with that movie.

porn girl riding cyb
- Another porn search leading to my blog. And all thanks to the following line in my post on Martin Scorcese. "His New York was that part which most of us just pass by and are thankful, that we dont belong there. It was a New York of Hells Kitchen, inner city areas, gangsters, pimps and ghettoes. It was a New York of brothels, low cost porn movie theaters, shady bars, drug addicts and prostitutes."

rana pratap,s rani- So after Jodha Akbar, is that the latest historical epic in making or some one else planning to direct it. I have no clue about Rana Pratap's Rani for sure, i only knew he was from "Mewar".

blog space tilu tells- The only Tilu in my blog is a character from Khatta Meetha.
"Aldous Huxley" "National Geographic" tibet- I only can relate to Aldous Huxley as the author of "Brave New World". Never knew of any expeditions of his to Tibet for sure.
my honeymoon experience in ooty- Sorry i prefer to keep my honeymoon details private. Yeah if you need more info on Ooty, u can check my post.
sikh wedding in amritsar- I had a post on Amritsar, dont recall any details on Sikh weddings for sure.
mamooty's daughter's wedding- Did Mamooty's daughter get married recently? Sorry but i have absolutely no interest in celebrity weddings.
madhubala wikipedia- Is this is a new version of Wikipedia? Or some kinda new indie movie? No clue again at all.
jallianwala biblical theori- Yeah i did post about Jallianwala Bagh, but Biblical theories?Unless you believe Jallianwala Bagh was some kind of a Biblical punishment meted out.

ooty prostitutes
- The only details of Ooty i have given are very normal. I have no idea about Ooty prostitutes.
watch for free Saaya- I guess some one here was referring to the John Abraham movie. Unfortunately i had written about the Sunil Dutt-Sadhana starrer Mera Saaya.
Eagles Crack Kurseong- Where Eagles Dare in Kurseong? Or does Kurseong have any soccer team called Eagles? Or is it a new kinda bestseller? Answers please.
italian mafia say about cocaine wars in miami-Well the Italian mafia did deal with cocaine? But Miami? That city was a Cuban mafia stronghold. Scarface any one.

Remember Them

Posted on Mar 24, 2008 under General

On March 23,1931Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were hanged to death. They died physically, but their memories have not. They accepted death with a smile, and walked all the way to the gallows. So that we could live as the nations of a free country.

Today 77 years after their sacrifice, the political leaders have forgotten them. The media is more busy making heroes out of 3rd rate jokers. I request all the members on Mouthshut to spare some time, to remember these heroes.

Not just Bhagat Singh, but countless others also. As an Indian i always salute these selfless men, for whom words shall not be sufficient.

Remember Chandrashekar Azad, the man who single handedly fought an entire British batallion at Albert Park in Allahabad, and when he had a single bullet left, chose to take his own life than surrender.

Remember Ram Prasad Bismil, who said "Sarfarosh ki Tammanna ab humare Dil Mein, Dekhna hai zor kitna baazu-e-qaatil mein hai". When hanged by the British for his involvement in the Kakori train case, he said upon going to gallows "Oh Lord! Thy will be done. You are unique. Neither my tears nor I will endure. Grant me this boon, that to my last breath and the last drop of my blood, I may think of you and be immersed in your work."

Remember the Chapekar brothers, who ignited the flame of revolution by their assasination of Rand, Pune's oppresive commisioner.

Remember Veer Savarkar, who escaped from a British steamer, and later was captured and tortured by the British at the Cellular Jail in Andamans.

Remember Bal Gangadhar Tilak's declaration of "Swaraj is my birthright and i shall have it".

Remember Jatin Das, who fasted to death in the prison, as a protest against the miserable living conditions of prisoners.

Remember Madame Bhikaji Cama, who was the first person to unfurl the flag of India at a conference in Germany.

Remember Shaheed Udham Singh, who avenged the massacre of thousands of Indians at Jallianwala Bagh by assasinating the culprit Michael O Dwyer.

Remember Tanguturi Prakasam who bared his chest to the British and dared them to take his life.

Remember Alluri Sitarama Raju who led the tribals against the British exploitation.

And so many other countless Indians. And remember one thing, independence was not won by a handful of leaders, it was won by the countless unnamed men and women, who put their lives on the line, so that we Indians could exist as the member of a free nation. Be proud of these people, and be proud that you are an Indian.

Legend of Bhagat Singh

Posted on Mar 24, 2008 under Movies

I had posted this review long time back, but then it did not get much comments. On the 77th anniversary of Bhagat Singh's martyrdom, i am posting this review again here.
March 23, 1931
- In the darkness of the night at Central Prison,Delhi, 3 unidentified bodies are taken away by the prison guards and burnt. The next day a crowd comes to know that the 3 bodies were of the legendary freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru. There is a huge clamour and the crowd demands that the British Govt honor the dead patriots. Thus begins ’’The Legend of Bhagat Singh’’ one of the best movies about the life of the legendary freedom fighter.

The movie then goes into a flashback mode and starts off with the young Bhagat Singh whose uncle Ajit Singh is a member of the Ghadr party and is a known revolutionary. Though the movie shows Bhagat Singh’s father trying to dissuade him from joining the freedom movement, in reality, his father was also an active member of the Ghadr party himself.
The brutal treatment of the Indians at the hands of the British and the Jallianwala Bagh massacre sow the seed of patriotism in Bhagat Singh’s mind. At National College, Lahore he comes across Sukhdev and they join Gandhiji in his fight for independence.
However when Gandhiji calls of the Non Cooperation movement due to the Chauri Chaura incident, Bhagat Singh is disillusioned and he along with Sukhdev meets the revolutionary Ram Prasad Bismil, and he joins the Hindustan Revolutionary Socialist Army led by Chandrashekar Azad. Ram Prasad Bismil is convicted and hanged of the Kakori conspiracy.

In the mean, the country is rocked by the protests against the Simon Comission, and during a demonstration, the great freedom fighter and Bhagat Singh’s mentor Lala Lajpat Rai is beaten to death during a lathi charge. This fires the anger in Bhagat and his comrades, and they resolve to assasinate the police comissioner Scott responsible for this outrage. However in a case of mistaken identity they assasinate Saunders instead. Bhagat Singh is a wanted man by the British now and he goes into hiding underground.

This is one of the best movies about the freedom fighter and director Raj Kumar Santoshi does a brilliant job again. The best parts of the movie are

1) The scene during the college drama, where Sukdev and his group start pelting the actors with tomatoes and then Bhagat Singh comes out singing ’’Pagdi Sambal Jatta’’.
2) Bhagat Singh’s fiery speech for independence in the court.
3) The smiling visage and the song ’’Mere Rang De Basanti’’ being sung by the three men on their way to the gallows. Interspersed with shots of Bhagat Singh’s parents and relatives helplessly wailing outside the prison, bought tears to my eyes.
4) Bhagat Singh’s induction into the revolutinary’s group and his encounter with Chandrashekar Azad.
5) The way Bhagat Singh and his comrades get the secret for making the bomb in the court and pass it on to other members of their group.
6) The methods adopted by the jail staff to break Bhagat Singh’s fast.

But there were a few minus points also:
1) The romantic track seemed to be put in for commercial considerations.
2) Also the encounter at a cricket match between Bhagaat and the British seemed to be taken out from Lagaan and has no relation with Bhagat’s real life story.
3) Not much is seen of Lala Lajpat Rai in the movie, which is surprising considering that he was a major influence in Bhagat’s life.

Performances
Raj Babbar and Farida Jalal- As Bhagat Singh’s parents they put in a good performance and bring out the anguish superbly.
Akhilendra Mishra- Brilliant cameo by him as Chandrashekar Azad.
Sushant Singh- This vastly underrated actor, again comes up with a superb performance as Sukhdev.
But above all the movie belongs to Ajay Devgan. His is the performance of a lifetime. After some time you forget you are watching Ajay Devgan and instead see Bhagat Singh alive on the screen. His performance in the court is outstanding and so is his performance in the prison also.
Music by A.R..Rehman is brilliant as usal. The songs ’’Pagdi Sambal Jatta’’ and ’’Mera Rang De’’ are brilliantly picturized.
Watch this movie, you need to know the men who gave their lives for us.

You Know You Are In Chennai

Posted on Mar 13, 2008 under General

Well continuing my You Know You Are In series, this time on Chennai, a city which is special to me, as it gave me the first break in my career. And like any other place where i spent more than a year, this place also has memories, good, bad and ugly.

So you know you are in Chennai when

* You have your "kaapi" filtered, strong and in steel tumblers( no cups please).

* You start the day with "kaapi" and the Hindu newspaper.

* The conductor in the bus sits at one end, and you have to go all the way to get the ticket.

* You smash pumpkins right on the road to ward off the evil eye.

* You say "Soopero", whenever you totally admire something.

* You have 3 kinds of weather- hot, hotter and hottest.

* When your relatives come visiting, you begin to plan for water supply and usage.

* Your surprised when the otherwise simple Maami next door, turns up for a wedding in a collection of jewellrey, that would make a Queen feel like a pauper.

* Every slum has a flag either of the DMK or the AIADMK.

* At the crack of the dawn, you smell the incense and the aroma of the dishes from the nearby hotel, along with MS Subbalaxmi's Suprabhatham.

* The traffic cops quite often resemble those you see in the villian's den of any Indian movie.

* When you find Saravana, Sangeethas, Woodlands at every nook and corner of the city.

* When Burma Bazaar is a place where you buy counterfeit goods.

* When you ask the autowallah to put on the meter, and he looks at you as if you are a Martian.

* When you do travel in auto by meter, and you find that it is double the amount you have to pay for what you would have after bargaining.

* When during a music concert, the women are more interested in knowing about which store offers sarees and jewellrey at the least discount.

* When you hang out near Ethiraj College for the females.

* When the best option to beat the heat is to hang out in Spencer's Plaza.

* When you drive down all the way to Pondicherry during the weekends for booze.

* When you know a heroine is a superstar, if she has a temple in her name.

* When you hit it out to T.Nagar for any purchase of textiles or jewellrey.

And yeah some more in pipeline. So any Chennaities here, can add to this list.

You Know You Are From Delhi

Posted on Mar 11, 2008 under General

Continuining my You Know You Are from Series, on those places where i spent at least a year. For me the best knowledge of  a place is not a tourist eye view, but to see it from the perspective of a resident of that place. Delhi was a place where i had spent a good 2 years in my career. Technically it was Noida, but quite often used to go to Delhi and Gurgaon too, so this is my recollections of  Dilli. Contributions from fellow Dilwales or Dilwalis of Dilli will be appreciated.

You know you are from Delhi

* When you approach a tent house decorator for marriage arrangements.

* On Sundays you hit the India Gate lawns for the ice creams and chaat.

* You tend to end every sentence with "Haanji", address even those younger to you as "Bhaisaab".

* Every house has a minimum of 2 cars.

* You refer to East Delhi as Jamuna ke Us Paar.

* You refer to AIIMS as Medical.

* You relish the gol gappas at Khan Market.

* You join your Bong friends for the Durga Puja celebration in C.R.Park.

* Your car has a minimum of 2 dents, and you would have indulged in fisticuffs with a fellow driver at least once in your lifetime.

* Your language is a mixture of Hindi, Punjabi and Haryanvi abuses.

* You hang out at Priya's on weekends for the latest Hollywood blockbuster, but more so to ogle at the PYT's in mini skirts there.

* The pretty young female right next to your home, addresses you as "Bhaiyya".

* You find the red gulmohur in full bloom during summer time.

* Every one you meet claims to know or is related to a VIP.

* You dont buy tickets for a music concert or cricket match, but try to take the help of your friend's Dad, who happens to be the PA to the under secretary of the deputy secretary of the chief secretary of the Minister of State for Khadi.

* You hang out at Sarojini Nagar or Lajpat Nagar market for budget shopping.

Well as of now, these are what i could recollect. Any more from fellow Dilli Wales, will be appreciated.

You Know You Are From Bangalore

Posted on Mar 08, 2008 under General

Bangalore, India's Silicon Valley, Garden City and now Traffic Jam city also. A Place where i spent 2 years of my life, before moving to Seoul, and where i plan to go back again to. So here are some things quintesentially Bangalorean. Other MSians from Namma Bengalooru, can also add their bit.

You know You are from Bangalore

* When you have to start 2 hours early, while going to your friends or relatives place.

* When you are fluent in at least 2-3 languages, and apart from Kannada, you can speak in Hindi/English/Tamil/Telugu/Mal

* When you have to shell out a king's fortune for a matchbox sized apartment.

* When you go to a Darshini for a quick bite or some good snacks.

* When you prefer to walk down Gandhi Bazaar any day over those modern swanky malls.

* When you have to plan the budget for your kids education in any good school.

* When come the weekend, you have a choice of hitting out to the sea(Canara), hills( Ooty) or the forests.

* When you tend to use Maadi at the end of every word.

* When it takes shorter time for you to walk from one end of city to another, rather than drive.

* When every year you have at least one major rock/pop band or singer giving a show at Palace Grounds.

* When you feel pretty much comfortable celebrating  Holi as well as Varamahalakshmi Vratha as you do with Gowri Ganesh Habba or Dussehra as well as Christmas and  Id.

Another Aussie whiner

Posted on Mar 03, 2008 under Cricket

Well i guess maybe the Aussies, should consider adopting whining and cribbing as their national sport. Considering the way they have been crying Mama for everything which we Indians do. Well it is nice to see the Indians, getting under their skin for a change. But even considering the general whining attitude of the Aussie media, this piece by a certain Rebecca Wilson, must take the cake, nee maybe the bakery. Here are some gems and pearls of wisdom. Honestly if these are the kind of retards the Aussie media passes off as columnists, well i can only wonder about their media.

Harbhajan Singh is an obnoxious little weed. He is a lot more too.
This most arrogant of Indian cricketers has attracted trouble throughout his entire career. He provokes the opposition, niggles all day long and behaves like a spoilt brat when the authorities dare to put him under the microscope. He is part of a caste system in a country whose tiered society benefits only those at its pinnacle. The Indian spinner definitely does not sit at the bottom of such a system.
Granted that Bhajji is all that what Ms.Wilson says, but in what way is this connected to Indian caste system. I guess its become a fad in the West to pick the Indian caste system as a convenient stick to beat with. Well it would be nice if Ms. Wilson, remembers there is something called Wikipedia, where she can do her research, before going on a crusade against India. Harbhajan Singh, is a Sikh, that is he belongs to a religion, which was founded in protest against the caste system. But then i guess to self righteous retarded morons, who think that every turban wearer is a terrorist, such distinctions dont matter. And I wonder what Ms. Wilson would wanna say about her country's  Whites Only Policy( way up till the 70's), treatment of Aborgines and the skin head gangs who go around terrorizing ethnic minorities. Or the fact that apart from Symonds, most of the Aussie cricket team is strictly Caucasian White. Matter of fact, its smaller cousin New Zealand has a much better record of promoting diversity and tolerance.
Oh yeah there are some breast beating intellectuals, who love to link the caste system with Indian cricket, and conveniently give the example of Vinod Kambli. Well Kambli ruined his career with his reckless ways, and it had nothing to do with his caste. Also neither Dhoni nor Praveen Kumar come from that pinnacle of tiered society, that Ms. Wilson rails about so much.
Not once this summer have India ever accepted the blame for any of the bad blood, for the out-of-control sledging or the absolutely dreadful way the team have conducted themselves throughout this tour.
Wow i wonder in what world Ms. Wilson is living. She seriously expects us to believe that the Aussie cricketers are a bunch of Sunday school boys, who have never sledged nor created any bad blood, and whose conduct has always been impeccable, and the Indian cricketers are a bunch of jerks. Grow up lady, people certainly are not as dumb as you think.
Matthew Hayden should take great comfort from this week's events. If nothing else, he has proved himself to be a gutsy and honest bloke who has a neat turn of phrase without having to use the f-word.
Yeah point noted here, the Aussies can sledge, abuse, browbeat, indulge in racist taunts, behave like petulant school kids and act like boors, but hey they are honorable honest blokes. Wow seriously i wonder which decade this woman belongs to. I guess she would be right at home with the Ku Klux Klan or any Skin Head gang.
Cricket Australia are yet to realise that standing up to bullies is the only way to defeat them.
Yeah thanks Ms.Wilson, cause whether Cricket Australia has realized it or not, Team India has certainly realized it. I honestly want to use my choicest 4 letter words here, but the rules here dont allow me. But i guess the writer must have got what any self respecting Indian thinks of her.

Pehla Nasha

Posted on Feb 29, 2008 under Movies

One of my all time favorite songs is Pehla Nasha, from the 1992 movie Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander, which incidentally happens to be one of my all time favorite movies. Quite a lot of reasons why i love this song so much. I was 23 when the movie was released and the first love thing, was something i could identify with easily.

Also when choreography in Bollywood meant heaving bossoms, crass  costumes, loud ear shattering music and jhatak matak, this was a song, so refreshingly natural, so brilliantly choreography. Farah Khan really revolutionized Bollywood choreography with this song. No elaborate steps, just simple natural gestures. Doing an impromptu dance with your brother, slipping in a note to your beloved when she is not looking, the feeling when you were first time in love, and you just felt like dancing. And yeah Pooja Bedi's Marilyn Monroe act( i guess practically the only time i could tolerate Ms.Bedi on screen).

And yeah i went totally head over hells for Ayesha Jhulka, her sweet, natural beauty, and simplicity. Sadly in the rest of the movies, after this she was plain awful. And Aamir again just proving he is one of the best actors in Bollywood. This is a song, which i guess will never go outdated at any time, as long as people keep falling in love. Another thing which i liked about this song, was that it was mercifully free of Swiss Alps and gaudy settings. It was shot in a total natural tone, the tea fields, the rolling hills, the valleys, the dhaba, the small bakeries, the garages, director Mansoor Khan beautifuly brings out the atmosphere.

Jatin Lalit's music also added wonderfully to the tempo. Especially the beautiful piano interlude at the starting of the song, and the music is just right, not too high, nor too low. Totally melodious, this was a real welcome break from the Dhak Dhaks and Tunna Tunnas which were blasting our eardrums then. And Majrooh Sultanpuri's lyrics were simple and so romantic coupled with wonderful singing from Udit Narayan and Sadhana Sargam. All in all a song, which would remain forever memorable.
