Selfie with Mangalyaan

In order to mark the historic day in India’s deep space history, on September 24 2014, an e-learning company Smartur has developed an Augmented Reality app that allows the user to closely watch the spacecraft and click a selfie with it.

The app has been developed to give an almost ‘real’ experience of seeing the Mars Orbiter in living environment with the help of a ‘Marker’.

Neeraj Jawalkar, Founder & CEO of Smartur.com, said, “The Mars mission, launched in November 2013, is a landmark project and most people aren’t really aware of its magnitude. In less than a year, the spacecraft will be covering 318 million km which is equivalent to 1,000 visits to the Moon and back,” He added, “We are one of the few countries in the world, which has attempted a mission to the Mars and we have also achieved it in 1/10th of the cost of its US counterpart and while their mission took about five years to launch, ours was done in 15 months.” Further speaking on the initiative, “To celebrate this achievement, we thought it imperative to first provide a platform for people to understand this significance in order to be able to pride on it. This is how the ‘Mangalyaan App and ‘Mangalyaan & Me’ took shape. This would be the first of its kind initiative where common citizens of the country can actually be a part of ISRO’s milestone”

Mangalyaan & Me is a contest run by the company to spread awareness and encourage Indians to participate in the historic achievement by sharing their innovative selfies with the orbiter.
