The Iceman speaketh?. I roam in the city as the Ice-Candy wallah, with an icebox of sweet ice candies. Hounded by little children and their mothers, I bring a little cool relief in the hot summer. The business is good when the day is hot, but I try to save a few for a sweet little child, who is ...Read more

Gandhi's philosophy are always praised in glorious terms everywhere. It was a shock to me when I first read about Gandhi's other undesirable philosophies. At first I thought it was an attempt to defame Gandhi but gradually, I came to know more and more about him. I was so sorely disappointed that we... are never told the dark sides of the 'great' Gandhi and that all writing on Gandhi in history books are politically handled. There is a great hue and cry about history books being rewritten by NCERT, which is biased by the 'hindutva' elements, when Congress is responsible for the facade built around Gandhi... Somebody ought to question that. Thank you for bringing this other face of Gandhi to light. ARead More

As the book has won the Booker in 1997, it brings the book very close to our generation. The problems of the 50?s and the 60?s like caste system, poverty and illiteracy are still prevalent but the story is told in a time and setting that is more familiar to us. Stylistically, it is very flowery ...Read more

The Shadow Lines is a wonderfully written text, and I could appreciate the use of language by the author. The plot has been well presented and everything has been tied very nicely. Stylistically, it is a very beautiful text. Thematically, the novel seems to be saying so many different things. ...Read more

The book is metafiction at its best. Metafiction What is metafiction? How is it defined and how is it executed in a novel? How do metafictional elements influence the reader and why does an author employ such strategies? ''Metafiction is a term given to fictional writing which self- con...Read more

The hilarious account of a prince who swaps places with his look-alike and the adventures of the two misplaced 10-year olds is far more fun than any Bollywood version of the book. It is a true Mark Twain classic with its subtle humour and his excellent sense of timing. I have read the unabdriged...Read more

This is one I could not watch more than 20 minutes. I thought that the direction, acting, and the dialogue delivery were so bad and artificial in those few minutes that I didnt have any hope for the movie to get better. I like Dimple Kapadia a lot and loved her in 'Rudaali' and she was one of the... reasons that I wanted to see this movie but I could not bear to see her in such a lousy movie... ApurvaRead More

I loved Rohinton Mistry's A Fine Balance very much. That particular book, I consider to be a masterpiece and it is sad that he did not win the Booker for it. It had a very sad ending and it was one of the reason why I hesitated to pick up his latest book. The preview on the backpage did not do a...Read more

One thing I liked very much about this book is that it shows the varying shades of evil. It is full of sorrow and gore and yet you smile at the end of the book. The characters are sad and are too much depressed by their failures. Clarice Starling, Rinaldo Pazzi, Mason Verger, Margot Verger are s...Read more
