Kolkata - attitude of people should change

Posted on Apr 21, 2008 under General

Kolkata city has the potential to be as like as Hongkong .. but the mentality of the city dwellers should change in a great way ...

( The simplicity and modest living of the villagers living in the 'villages' are not targets here.. .. they are our precious souls ... producing all sorts of food grains and goods with so may pains and sufferings ... for the city people)

Book Fair '08 "seminar" at Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata :
Seminar dt. 03-03-08

Some speakers were telling that ( some of the ) city dwellers of Kolkata have the mentality that of the "villagers" ...

They could never acquire the 'attitude' to be a member of a great cosmopolitan city ... 300 yrs old city of Kolkata ....and once the capital of India..  !!

They may not imagine that this city may one day become and have the potential something like "HongKong" ...? or some other (not Mumbai )....

That "villagers like" mentality is the greatest enemy for progress ...
These may be as follows :-
  - apathty towards change
    -  to be contained with the present
    -  not inducing others for change
    - view all changes with suspicion   etc

Sorry ... I have no idea ... may be applicable for many other Indian cities alike.... !!

Inflation and price rise - WBengal faces a Bandh c

Posted on Apr 13, 2008 under General

News : A Bandh call has been given to protest against the growing inflation and price rise in the state of WBengal by a section of the opposition namely TrinoMul and SUC on the 21st of April '08.

This state has witnessed frequent band calls recently by the opposition parties be it Mul or TrinoMul - be it Congress or not ....!!

Question : Should all strikes and bandhs be called unwanted including this one ?

 Discussion :
An attempt is deliberately being made to " Mix and cross-Mix the issues related with a genuine reason of a Bandh call" this one or anyother   - as if all issues are of same importance's and everybody and every political party are same....!!!

These are the general misconceptions created about issues ( generally resorted to by the self styled "Intellectuals " - abundantly available with the Bengalees only with a mouse in hand and all tall talks - this writer is also included  .. !! ).

Why another costly Bandh on this State   .... !!

- may anybody justify a band for price rise only in a State ?

- may a bandh arrest price rise ?

- may a State try to resist price rise when we know now it is an all India and global affair ?

- may a frequent Bandh caller approach the people for another bandh .. frequent loss of earnings - that too for a non-issue  ?

- may the parties asking for a Bandh stop right here ... may not resort to another Bandh for another ( always flimsy ) reason ?

- is there no 'hidden reason" for this Bandh call when the state is going for a Panchayet Poll and all election related jobs are being done ?

- may anybody stop the bandh callers trying to remain in the news head lines and catching the 'eye-balls' with all wrong reasons ?

- have this bandh caller/s ever helped this state to grow for prosperity.. . when other states are marching ahead ?

- have not these bandh callers tried to halt progress of this state in each and every occasions ?

- have  this bandh callers placed with us " An Alternate Agenda " for the progress of this state ?

Suppose - just suppose -  a Bandh is called for

- The state is barred to progress by any centrist forces .. is barred to get fresh proposal for investments and projects ?

- The State is barred to get electricity from outside the state ?

- The State is filled with arms and ammunition's from a foreign country ( remember it was done in Purulia ) ? The intelligence persons of a Big powerful  country is watching all events in this state ... !!!

- The fair Price shops of this state is not provided with food grain items from the FCI ?

- The water of Ganges is stopped beyond the boundaries of this state and diverted ?

- etc etc.

In these calls we might require to think twice to oppose ... is it not ? You told you love Calcutta and the state  ?

Members ... the resolutions of the people in the state is  ... we want to march ahead .. past is past ...we want to be global leader is thoughts and in deeds. Even a state may contribute for the rising India .. please no mixing of issues ... there are good and bad equally.

Lastly ... as I am not a polital Pundit to understand the complex issues in  the " Governance / Management of People" I might be excused if I have made any mistake in presenting these issues to you.

Thanks.

Only Private Sector Banks - a solution ?

Posted on Feb 27, 2008 under General

People knowingly or un-knowingly canvass for " Only Private Sector Banks " in India now a days meaning that the Public Sector Banks are no good now and should be merged to leave the arena only for the Private Sector ..  !!

Do these kind of people think that the cities and towns alone do not represent India ? Do they know that most of the people live in Semi-urban and rural India which may not see a bank branch of a Private Bank in next 30 yrs when they equally deserve to get the feel of a Bank in their locality ..!!

How far this stand is correct .. may the vast population of India be surved by the Private Banks alone ... have they a real interest to serve in those areas where "revenues" are less and even "nil" in some case> Some of them are :

- Payment of Pension to the retired Govt. and Defense people
- Paying Teachers' Salary including Primary teachers
-Serving "Savings Customers" with negligible balances
-Paying  stipend to students of schools and colleges
-Paying "un-employment allowances" in some states
-Paying workers salary through extension counters
-Giving small loans to farmers and artisans including small business etc. etc.

And above all, if there was no Public Sector Banks, these Private Banks would not have adopted all "un-fair means" to expolite their customers more and more > Some of them :-

- Higher service charges in all fields
-Higher and higher charges for counting of notes
-Higher collection and incidental charges
-Higher minimum balance charges
-Higher pressure by goons for loan recovery
-Higher interests in all loans etc ???

May we discuss these aspects for the benefit for all even those people who do live in romote places, works hard for a square meal, in fields and factories ? Those who may not express themselves in writing letter to editors of News Papers, posting "Blogs" on the net, may not come in contact with the Ploicy makers  and so on ...?

Microsoft taking over Yahoo ..?

Posted on Feb 27, 2008 under General

The software giant Microsoft is all aggressive to take over Yahoo, it has been learned. Microsoft is interested for Yahoo to face growing competition from another giant Google.

In on line advertisement job, Google has become a leader. It's search engine is all a favorite with the users. In my case, I have the tool bar of Google on my desk top and use their search bar when ever I want. Similarly I use Microsoft and its operating system for long. Yahoo is may mailer and I start a day on computer with opening the Yahoo "Mail box" first. I am also a fan of Y/A and like to see questions of my likings here and answer the same.  In India, I believe,  that's the rule generally.

Microsoft even may go in for "hostile take over" if the Yahoo management do not say yes to their proposal. Yahoo is not really interested with the proposal and searching for other buyers equally. News Crop. management is also interested for Yahoo, it has been learned.

Now, what comes in my mind, in whose hand our beloved Yahoo will be as safe and customer friendly as it is to-day? May its sell be beneficial for us ? May monopoly by one do good for the customers ? Your opinion !!

Sleep sex - Sexsomnia .. a disorder

Posted on Feb 25, 2008 under General

Wife/s complain in house that last night "he" was behaving wrong while on sleep ... !!
Things are kept secret to the possible and open in Court Room/s. What's the problem anyway .. ?

This is a sleep dis-order named "Sexsomnia" where the male person becomes violent with his counterpart and fogets the same in the morning

"     According to M S Bhatia, professor and head of department of psychiatry at the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, the man would have been treated for sleeping disorders had his wife not revealed his abnormality.

It made them realise that he was actually suffering from sexsomnia.

Bhatia, who has written about the subject in the October issue of Delhi Psychiatry Journal, read by 300 psychiatrists across the country, said doctors should always talk to patients' spouses or partners to get the real picture as the person has no clue about it themselves.

"Most people in India are not aware of it. They don't know they have a problem. And even those who know about it hide it or feel embarrassed. Even in the West, people are ignorant about this problem," Bhatia said.

He said the person in sleep is often very demanding, even a little violent and aggressive and not ready to take no for an answer. "The person suffering from this problem doesn't realise that he has sought sex, sometimes unintentionally," he added.

Also known as "sleep sex", this disorder usually causes problems in relationships. "People are not aware that it is a medical problem. And they are afraid that they would be judged for their behaviour."

The patient also suffers from guilt and fails to understand that he could behave in such a manner when the partner inform him the next day.

Not thought of as a common problem, as compared to sleepwalking, which is said to affect two to four percent adults, sexsomnia can be cured if triggering factors like depression, stress and sleep deprivation are addressed, Bhatia said  " .. courtsey : Sify.

Real estate in Singapore

Posted on Feb 25, 2008 under General

After acquiring real estate/s in Goa, now the affluents in India may acquire the same in Singapore. This may make a chance for people like me, not at all affluent, to visit Singapore along with them, if invited, to visit Singapore ... !!

Even this may open an "Investment Avenue" for them - in my previous Blog I have stated that in present day Indian stocks ....  manipulations are being feared. Like others, I also hate manipulations. But a section of businessmen, from decades, have grown skills in rigging / manipulations here. Who / how to check them ?

A Singapore farm, Far East, has opened an office in Kolkata for the following :-

Project   :
                  : Vida ( Singapore )
Consists of
   : 100 Vilsa & 1200 flats
Price range
       : From 2.5 crore to 15 crore
They are targeting more offices in Mumbai and Delhi. May "Kolkata" boast of opening of their first office ...? Perhaps. This city is now buzzing with new and new investments and real state activities.

Want to know Kolkata "live" from this member ...? Write to me ..!!  I am a free lancer.

Development Vs Scam

Posted on Feb 24, 2008 under General

When India is rising there remain some checks and balances.
The success story of India has attracted lots of investors from India and abroad. But all of them may not have come here to join the development process. Some have the urgency to produce money from this 'band wagon' and leave.

This was evident when in the recent I.P.O. launch, some Cos. were seen to over value their IPO valuation in a boom market. The result was seen out right that the market could not sustain the price level when the issues were launched in the Stock Market. Some had to even withdraw their issue seriously impacting the sentiments of the retail investors.

Had the Merchant Bankers properly advised their customers at the time of fixing prices of the issues, these might not happened. Now the overall sentiment of the market is bearish and may not turn positive if not some major events occur.May a good budget do that ?

Everybody suffered but the plight of common investors was very gloomy. Their dream has been shattered and they may not dare to visit Stock market in near future. This was a major fault on behalf of all the stake holders. The Media created the hype which was basically unjust.

How can we minimize the Scams ? A strict market discipline is the answer. Who ever is to participate in development of this country, should be prudent enough to speak of development which is sustainable. We should remember that ultimately they will win who keep promises. Thanks.
