Thank you for letting me know about a subject that is very dear to my heart as well. Your anguish comes thru very well & is obviously very well justified. I have forever wondered why we even try & do things that we are not capable of ... dont mean in the least that one doest to try to become what on...e dreams of; its just that the question is, at what cost ? Its organisations like these who scuttle our defence deals when we want to purchase hardware that we desperately need - claiming 'we'll do it'. In the process what have you - a depleted services core, hundreds of crores that have gone waste & a nation's security that is periliously close to getting exposed ! Pls forward me any response / material that (if) you receive from DRDO / ISRO ... I would really be interested as this is a subject, as mentioned earlier, thats very very close to my heart as well. Thanx for ur review n keep writing !Read More

I must begin by stating that I have not seen the original DON & in my opinion I dont even think that one has to see that to review the new one. Why ? You are obviously not the first one (and unfortunately wont be the last one either) who has attempted to draw similarities between the freedom struggle & the efforts of activists who today fight for what they too call freedom? And why stop at the North East & Kashmir, there many more efforts all aro...und the world; as well as efforts of other kinds where groups of people have even been fighting for independent new states, with in our own land. To my mind, the ideological basis of these struggles, and for each one of them, can be a matter of debate n discussion in its own self. So I would desist a discussion on these in the middle of the subject that’s up for discussion, here & now, in this section. Its alarming to note how people can shower praise on a creative, just because it has made them THINK. Lovely to note that its actually that easy to judge a body of work – basis that one thing it does; it makes you think. My view that any piece of creative work, no matter how shitty it is, will make a person ‘think’ in the very least – whatever be the thought it triggers & to what consequence. A good body of work is one that makes you think good & correct. It gives guidance to people who seek on which ways are open to be taken to achieve the goal sought. For me the 'method' matters too. People did protest in the freedom struggle. And violence was not the only form. This movie, which like any other form of creative work, is disappointing for me because I, unlike you, did not expect it to make me only THINK. I was expecting a message, which too me wasn’t upfront (and now all of us can have our views on that); I was looking in it for a method (and I must share with you that I manage to THINK even without the help of a movie enabling me to do that - sure am not the only one) that would propagate the message in a manner which would be guiding those who would want to adopt it; and guiding them to behave in such manner that whileRead More

Awakened Vs Sleeping; Individual Vs Generation ....! Now those certainly look like small issues that I seemed to have missed altogether ; -) Good to note that I seem to in the minority who didn't get the directors storyline ...!

If what you can do for your country was the idea, if looking indise yourself & questioning your contribution in your nation building was the idea, if encouraging the gen-now to think about their committments towards their homeland was the idea; then a brilliant movie to my mind was 'Swades' which di...d all that. Not a piece of convuluted, shitty story telling in that; clean in communication of the thought & methods. And I feel equally strongly about the MIG's thing but is the causal reason ascribed the correct one ? I dont know, I just asking .... And sorry for making too much abt Sue's documentary making ways (think that I took the directors story line a little too seriously !) But sure everyone has a right to their views and what they take out of a message (well told ...?!?!?!?) Thanx for commenting anyway !Read More

Himanshu - Agree with u on the ratings & thanx for ur appreciation. Abha - Appreciate your comments as well but just to clarify that on individual perfomances, I think too that everyone did a good enough job; Aamir for average fare & Soha for some good portrayal, I continue to single out. Also go...t to do with perhaps greater expectations from one & whereas the other was an unknown qty to me atleast. As far as the MIG's go, ofcourse they crash & could be called the coffins that they are - my issue is that the reason that is being ascribed to for leading to these crashes, is there a valid base for that ? Coz the director is certainly talking straight language on that. The other thing is that merely decent/good performances by the actors of the movie, dont make the movie perse a good one. For that to happen, it needs to hold good to a story (or several of those in the plot), the message has to be told well, and, most importantly, the message has to be one that is true & shows the right way. Whether or not people adopt that way is best left to their discreetions but it is atleast the responsibilty of the story teller (director) that he sends out a correct message. And that is where this movie has failed. Its confused in the story it wants to tell, its made a mistake (according to me) in the manner in which it has told that story. Performances aside.Read More

Very well written n lots of data. Effort put in is impressive indeed. Just while you wrote on 'passion' (or the lack of evidence of it in him), thought that i must share my view on it : often the most passionate people are those who in their daily lives dont make too much of a song n dance about... the thing that they are passionate about. Their inner passion drives these people to achieving their own objective for their ownselves - silently & in a steadfast manner. The effort put in is to prove to your ownself. And I guess once you have done that, then probably you break down infront of people; and thats when they see in you, what they thought was non-existant. That said, a great review all in all.Read More
