I am glad you liked my review. I tried to avoid reading reviews on the movie except to see if it was tolerable enough, and went in with low expectations. I guess that is why I enjoyed it.

Yes, time mamagement is definitely very important, especially for women nowadays, with managing home and work and kids! Thankfully, I don't have kids!!! One more thing that I wanted to add to the list is delegation of work. My husband works late hours because there are times when he feels that other...s probably won't do the work with as much efficiency as he does, and he ends up spending a lot of time on meagre tasks that could be delegated. I get to learn a lot from observing him, and once I start working, that is the first thing that I will focus on... effective delegation. I think we Indians feel a little guilty if we tell someone 'you have not done this work properly', or say 'look, your bonus depends on it so you better do a good job.' Of course it has to be said in a more tactful manner. But Americans don't mince words... they don't feel guilty or anything about being stern in this matter. Anyways, I liked your review and felt that it touched upon a lot of important points.Read More

Okay, this review was for people who do not have problems and stuff. No I have not seen an Endocrinologist, and I do not have weight problems!!! I just wanted to share what I have been reading, and I have mentioned in CAPITAL LETTERS that please follow at your own risk and consult a doctor. My plan ...is my own, and I have followed it, and would like to continue doing so. It just gives information that I have compiled from various websites. Yes, protein cannot be taken by people with kidney problems. Yes people gain weight for different reasons and cannot lose it without help from a doctor. But hey people here are adults and can decide for themselves if they wish to pick something from the regime, or not. And PLEASE READ WHAT I HAVE WRITTEN IN CAPS... PLEASE. Anyways, the male hormone comment was meant to be a joke!!! Whew!Read More

If you do not take lots of water during the day, your body will think that it is starving and store that water. Once you drink lots of water, your body will realize that it does not need to store water because it is going to get enough of it. Trust me, that alone can account for 5 pounds of your wei...ght loss! You may want to use the bathroom many times initially, but think of it this way - each time you go, your body is flushing out the toxins and alongwith it fat!!!!! So the more number of times you go, the more fat will be flushed. 10) Calories intake. It is said that if you need 2000 calories per day and wish to lose weight, you should reduce your intake slowly and gradually, and never go below 1000. If you do exercise alone, you will not lose weight because you may end up burning what you eat. So it is important to take in less calories. Although its a boring process to write what you eat, having a food journal helps you see and plan better. I have columns for carbs, fat, protein, and sugar, and write in my journal religiously. I have to say its very very boring, but trust me, once it becomes a habit, it will do you good. Wish you and me luck!!!Read More

8) Every diet should be balanced. You need carbs if you wish to stay energetic. So you should not stop carbs. Rather, you should pick good carbs over bad ones. I do not want to repeat the differences between good and bad carbs. That topic has been touched upon many times here. In fact, the first rev...iew touches upon this topic in detail and mentions websites. Fibre is also necessary and can be found in fruits and some green leafy vegetables. You also need a good amount of protein. Protein sources are paneer, dal, fish, turkey, chicken, etc. etc. Now unless you have lots of this food it is unlikely that you will have a balanced diet with protein. I take a whey protein supplement. I know that in India supplements are 'bad', so I won't elaborate on this. But one should have a good amount of protein every day. Protein builds muscle. For best results, one should have carbs and protein together, eating carbs first and then protein. Carbs release insulin, and if you eat protein soon after carbs, instead of the glucose from carbs being stored as fat, it is burnt to consume the protein. And protein is digested very slowly and needs a lot of energy to burn. So I would suggest that if you are hungry at night even during forbidden hours, eating protein (like paneer tikka) will actually be good because then while you sleep your body uses more carbs to burn that protein. With protein, you end up burning more fat. And in case you do take in excess of protein for some reason, well, it will leave your body and cannot be stored as fat!!! Now protein is gassy, and one way to prevent that is to drink lots of water. 9) WATER. How can I stress this enough? At least 10 glasses a day. Sometimes, most of the weight in your body is water weight. For women, the ugly cellulite in thunder thighs is water in small pockets that may not be rid of during exercise. Drinking lots of water can help. If you do not take lots of water during the day, your body will think that it is starving and store Read More

Weight training builds muscle, muscles increase metabolism. So if you burn 100 cals by sitting in a chair, depending on your muscles/metabolic rate, you will burn maybe 200 cals doing that same activity! Isn't that great? The weight training that I am talking about is not one where a person lifts sa...y 10 kg 20 times, and increases the number of repetitions with the same weight - that is circuit training, and just increases endurance, not muscle. The weight training where you do, say, 7 repetitions with a 20 kg weight, and gradually increase to 30 kg weight still doing 7 repetitions, will increase muscle. If you do cardio without weight training, it may happen that you end up burning less fat and more muscle. In that case I guarantee that you will gain the weight back once you stop exercising! For permanent weight loss, building muscle is the best way to lose fat and convert cellulite into muscle. Just 3-4 weeks of this type of weight training can increase your metabolism to a high level and speed your fat burning process. By the way, when you start weight training, your weight increases initially, because muscle is heavy. But once you get into the mode and do it regularly, you will start losing weight at a faster rate. One more thing about weight training. You should have at least 48 hours between each weight training exercise. Each time you do it, your muscles break down and need 48 hours at least to build new and bigger muscles. So if you do the exercises between that time period there is threat of injury to muscles, since they have not yet recovered from the previous day's exercise. Moreover, after weight training if you take in protein, it will help tone the muscles, since there is shortage in the body. So after every workout with weights I make it a point to have lots of protein. 8) Every diet should be balanced. You need carbs if you wish to stay energetic. So you should not stop carbs. Continued from the review... PLEASE FOLLOW WHAT I HAVE WRITTEN AT YOUR OWN RISK. I AM NO EXPERT, AND THE FOLLOWING IS JUST MY OPINION. 6) Exercise SMARTLY! The best time to do cardio exercises is in the morning soon after you wake up and before you eat anything. When you wake up, since your ...body has already burnt carbs in your sleep and stored the rest, the glucose level is very low. So when you work out first thing in the morning, due to a low glucose level, the body burns fat for energy instead of glucose/carbs. So you are burning your stored old fat! Of course if you do not feel like working out in the morning, its okay to work out at other times. But at other times, you need to work out for 20 minutes and only after that will your body stop burning the carbs that you have consumed during the day and start burning stored fat. On the other hand, if you do weight training then all your carbs are used up. So after every weight training regime if you do some cardio like running or walking or cycling, you will end up burning only fat during cardio. Moreover, is is said that after every workout try not to eat for at least 60 minutes unless you are very hungry, since your body is still burning fat for one full hour after a workout! 7) WOMEN READ THIS --- Weight training. I know what you are thinking. Yuck! I don't want to have muscles like a man! Well, you cannot if you are a woman, because you need to have male hormones to have muscles like men. So just by doing weight training you will not have muscles like men, unless you take supplements to inject male hormones in your body! And I am saying it from personal experience. No, I have not injected male hormones, but I do weight training, and boy, it makes you feel sooooo good and toned. Weight training is the most important aspect and SHOULD be a part of every person's regime!!! Continued in another comment...Read More

I loved reading your review! I watched the movie some time back, and had a so-so reaction to it. I didn't care for Martin as much, but he does get good dimples. I felt that the movie had nothing new to offer, but had to keep reminding myself that it is an adaptation of 'Bride and Prejudice', and so ...it would have to follow the story line. You know, I had gone to the theatre to watch another movie here in New York, and among all the boring Hollywood trailors, the trailor for B&P just sprang on the screen, and it was such a joyful splash of colors, that only a Bollywood movie can have! Anyways, the movie is okay for a one-time watch. And I so like Ash since she has gotten very selective in picking roles. By the way, the guy who loved Namrata in this movie played a king in Kamasutra, and his sister in this movie played his lover / mistress in Kamasutra. They look so different here, and I was wondering how they felt acting here as bro-sis and fully clothed (lol).Read More

I did not want to be repetitive and so avoided the story, but here it is. 'D' is Deshu, played by Hooda, who rises from 'rags to riches' as a gangster. He works for a big bhai, played by Goga Kapoor. Goga has 2 sons, both of them useless. Chunky Pandey plays the bhai who works with D. For some reaso...n D has decided to become a gangster, and uses an incident to get in touch with Goga. Anyways, D does a great job, and Goga's 2 sons are jealous. They get Goga to assign D to Gujarat, and then they fill his ears against D. Goga orders for D to be killed. Chunky gets killed, and D escapes. But then he meets Goga and kills one son, to make matters even. One by one Hooda kills everybody who could be an enemy, and becomes the bhai. Along the way he has an affair with a film actress, played by Ruksaar. Ruksaar has lost weight for this movie. I do remember seeing her in a sob story many many years back, and I did not like her then, nor do I now. She looks old during close-ups. And when Hooda tries to escape the bad guys when they come to kill him after they have killed Chunky, Ruksaar, although dressed in a salwar-kameez and wearing flat shoes, cannot run and keeps tripping. I can understand that may happen if women wear short tight skirts and heels, which they normally do. But here she just trips, God knows why! Her acting skills are not required in this movie, and as a showpiece she doesn't really do the job. I felt as if the movie was incomplete. Why did Hooda want to be a gangster? I mean, he did not just wake up one day and decide to do so. There must have been something... and nowhere in the movie is this missing link found. That was the main reason why I could not connect with the main character. Hooda is portrayed as smart, intelligent, and shrewd. But why is he the way he is? Even when he is attracted to Ruksaar, there are no dialogues to show why he felt the way he did. I would have liked to have learnt more about the character. Read More

I give good movies a rating of 3, really good ones 4, and the best ones with absolutely no flaw a 5. I did enjoy the movie, but one thing about it is that it is very predictable. One is on the edge of the seat due to camerawork. The camera has been focused so close to the boxers that I felt that I ...was being hurt rather than the opponent in the ring. I could in a way understand how much being hit in the face could hurt, thanks to excellent camerawork. But yes, the movie was very predictable, and there are lots of boxing movies out there, so the story was not novel. Hope that helps. I do try to be a little kanjoos with ratings, and so don't like to give a 5, and so my yardstick starts with 4 as the highest. But for Black and Shwaas 4 would not have done justice, and so they got a 5.Read More
