People who make a difference...

Posted on Apr 21, 2008 under General

I found this beautiful piece and wanted to share it with all you guys. I am sure you will like it too.
With love and light,
Debarati.

The following is the philosophy of Charles Schultz, the creator of the "Peanuts" comic strip. You don't have to actually answer the questions. Just read the e-mail straight through, and you'll get the point.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.

2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.

3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America Contest.

4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.

5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.

6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.

How did you do?

The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. They are not second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields.. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.

2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.

3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.

4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.

5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

Easier?

The lesson: The people who make a difference in your life are NOT the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones who care.

Share this with those who have made a difference in your life.

On an impulse

Posted on Mar 28, 2008 under General

Yesterday was one of those days - days when things you never imagined happen. Sunny and mildly humid, typically Mumbai day. Began quite normally and by noon I was at the airport seeing off my hubby.

We were right at the departure gate when we noticed that ticket window. On an impulse I said, ‘It would be fun if we could go with you.’

In the next few minutes my daughter and I had our tickets in our hands! Even while boarding the flight I was like, ‘I can’t believe we are going with you!’

This was one of the most impulsive things we hve done. I was completely unprepared to travel - jeans, sneakers, hardly any cash, no phone charger etc etc

‘Traveling light’ is something that does not come very easily to me but after yesterdays flight, I have conquered that.

Feels super. Exhilarating.

Have you guys ever done something spontaneously / completely unplanned? How has it made you feel? Did u feel like you defeated life ke plans itself?

its magic

Love is magical.
It's a language the deaf can hear...
a song the crippled can dance to...
and a sunset that the blind can see.

We are only what we remember

Posted on Feb 27, 2008 under General

We are only what we remember, nothing more. . . all we have is the memory of what we have done or not done; whom we might have touched, even for a moment...

. . . that in the end we're always alone. by ourselves.

I found this somehwhere on the net somewhere. Nice, na?

Depression isn't bad :)

Posted on Feb 27, 2008 under General

Thank you dear freinds. You guys literally pulled me out of that room! :)
The m2ms and all ur messages do mean a lot. :)
Yesterday, after all tht on depression and feeling low, I was rather surprised to find this article on today's TOI (The Times Of India).  It is a PTI story and I want to share it with all of you.

‘Depression makes you stronger’

London: Depression is common but it’s not a sign of weakness. In fact, experiencing the condition for a brief period can actually benefit you.
A leading psychiatrist has claimed that a bout of depression could be good for the soul — it may bring misery to its sufferers, but it can also leave them tougher and more resilient, the Daily Mail reported on Monday.
“We see it as a defect — often patients see themselves as broken in some way — whereas I think of it as a defence mechanism. It has simply adapted in the human species to give us long term benefits,” Dr Paul Keedwell of Institute of Psychiatry in London was quoted as saying.
According to him, depression, which has played a key role in evolution, can also spark creativity. However, Keedwell had warned that the condition in severe form can be terrible and life threatening, unless treated. “But for many it is a short term painful episode,” he explained.
Estimates suggest that as many as one in four people will suffer from depression at some stage in their lives, and that 5% of the population is currently living with it.
Keedwell’s book ‘How Sadness Survived’, published last month, comes as a growing number of experts question whether doctors and drug companies are too keen to treat the condition with powerful and harmful drugs. Keedwell, said: “We see it as a defect. Often patients see themselves as broken in some way, whereas I think of it as a defence mechanism.” PTI

...am in this closed room where everyone is happy and having the time of their lives, everyone assumes I am also enjoying myself. things are just going on. I am witnessing it all in slow motion. There is this strange feeling of slowly being stifled, like if I stay on in the room for minute longer I will die. feel suffocated.
Eveyone is still in that annoying slow motion mode- why cant they see that I cant even breathe here.
and I am rushing from one corner of the room to the other, trying to find a way out. I feel trapped and disoriented and very, very ,lost. I am trying to ask people to help me but they do not seem to understand that there is something amiss. It is as if they are not even aware of my predicament.
I can see myself simply giving up. I can see myself perishing there. And no one cares...
